tascam us-122 to be able to hook it into a computer and run it properly? I am not sure myself, but if someone could tell me, that would really save me some loot...of course I am a newbie to PC recording.

also what does it mean when it states "Unpowered?"

i really don't know if that is good. I saw a person wjho had a pro-tols m-box with an unpowered board similar to this hooked up to it. is there a reason he had both? it looks like you would be able to just run with the board itself and not need something such as the Tascam us-122

the link to look up the alesis board is here:

is the main difference that

somethign such as the tascam us-122 allows you to use midi easier? is it smart to buy both?

if the mixer has firewire/USB out then you do not need another audio interface (they wont work at the same time) if you need midi, then just get a midi interface which is independant of the audio interface

Unpowered means that there is no built in power amp. These mixers are for PA systems, not recording.
