If you had no choice but to record studio vocals with a live performance vocal mic (dynamic mic), which would you pick and why?

EV RE15

Because it gets nothing but rave reviews, and Elvis used it. So did a lot of other people....

Beyer M88 is excellent and even looks like a SM58! OK, maybe from a distance :p

Well ... technically speaking, if you're recording "studio vocals" with it, then it's no longer a "live performance" mic now, is it? :D

Just messin' with ya. The above recommendations are both excellent.

Yeah.... OK smartypants. :D

What I'm looking for is the mic that's tough as an SM57 and can pound nails but still walk the talk in the studio.

It will be used primarily as a stage mic so I'm looking for a list of those types of mics.

A Shure SM57... because, it's as tough as an SM57 and can pound nails but still walk the talk in the studio.

I have no experience with them in the studio, but I'd try an EV e845, or Audix OM-7. I have used them both live and think they both sound great, depending on the voice.

I would only pound nails with the OM-7, though. :)

Why didn't 'ya say so? What you want is an Electrovoice RE-20. Or an SM-7. Whatever Big Kenny says.

For guitars, but I think there are better choices for vox.

Either SM58 or SM57... :) Just don't forget to pay attention on preamp & mixer setting, etc.

I have both the SM& and a 421. They have their place as vocal mics.

Ok... get one of those then.

I already know what I think. I asked this question to find out what others think based on their experiences with mics I may not have heard.

If you were recording vocals in a studio setting and your only choices were dynamic mics, the M88, OM6, Beta58, RE20, and SM57 among them, and you would opt for the SM57 over everything else, then who am I to argue?
