If only all the supposed "pro's" around here had good shit like this to post, instead of just saying "go buy expensive gear and have so and so master it".

;)

Note how he includes audio samples of what he is talking about! :D

This guy has engineered stuff you have probably heard on the radio before. I think he gave up posting here long ago. You can find him over at RP a lot though.

Nice unbiased reference.

But take a look at the pictures of the rack he uses. I'm seeing gear by Manley, Langevin, Focusrite, Eventide, and what look like a bunch of Neve clones. Whoever this person is, he's spent plenty on expensive gear.

However, I do love audio examples too! My favorite is when people post links to WAV's, not mp3's. In my opinion, you can't really tell anything from an mp3 file, they are just useless for listening for the finer points of a mix or of gear.

Pipeline is a great guy and gave me some break-through advice once on how to EQ a mix over at the Recording Project site.

Regarding buying expensive gear and having someone else master it, this is the one thing novices find distasteful and it can be avoided if you want to spend at least 5 years studying and mixing so as to learn what is necessary to make a decent recording. At the end of the day however, much of the sounds we all grew up with were not done on low end gear and in fact were carefully mastered. There are exceptions, but not many.

How could you tell the article was by Pipeline? I didn't see a byline.

Go to the link, at the top it says Pipeline Audio. Had to be the same guy.

Obviously, you know something here. OK, cough up the goods...

I don't. I just got curious and wanted to know who wrote the article. I poked around, found the link, and assumed that this was an act of self-promotion.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least, anyways.

Bingo!

Nice catch, Frazh. Definitely fits the M.O. Wouldn't be the first time - or even the second time - he came on here as "someone else" to promote his own pablum.

G.

You guys crack me up!

First off, I am NOT a Vegas 6 user!

Second off, I have a much better speaking voice than he does!

Third off, I am MUCH better looking! :D

I don't have my name of big records either.

LOL...Self promotion. You guys crack me up. Fit the MO! LOL

You guys are so fucking crazed to try to pin stupid shit on me that you can't even see the obvious stuff!

Anyway, I am sure pipelineaudio would be honored to be confused with me! ;)

I'll tell you this though...

thats the first time I've seen a pair of NS-10s set up vertical like that....Hmmmmmmmmm.

Actually, NS-10's were *always* vertical. Until they started trying to convince people that they were good for studio use. Then they turned them sideways - probably to make them look more "professional" to the study group.

Makes sense, thank god I wasn't around for the NS-10 revolution. I've only heard one pair and that was enough for 2 lifetimes.
