I was out walking my dog one Friday afternoon last summer and came across this older lady setting up for a garage sale. I came away with an old 50's Wollensak tube reel to reel for $5.00.

It has a pre-amp out that I haven't been able to get to work. And I haven't tried recording anything with it...no tape. I have been using it as a practise amp with my guitar.

I was wondering if there was a way I could use this thing in my recordings or if it would even be worthwhile spending any cash to get it serviced and working properly. Any thoughts?

put it on a shelf. let it RIP... clean it up, polish it, throw some tape on it and it will look really cool in the studio.

No love for the old stuff, eh?

Oh well, at least the $300 or so worth of Mullard and RCA Blackplate tubes that I found in the Wollensak have a good home in my real guitar amp. :D

Record some guitar, send it to the reel to reel, and then (line out?) back to digital.....What is the i/o?

Buy another one and link up the tape some 5 feet apart for some long echo effects. just record going into the first one and play the output of the second. and adjust the speed to...well you get the picture. :)

Mic in, line in, pre-amp out and an extension speaker out. All 1/4 inch.
