What's this button do?
I am trying to put together a rack of components to be used as a small live PA rig as well as digital 8-track studio. I think I am sold on the new fostex vf08 for a recorder, and pricewise, a Behringer 2004 mixer. I would like to house it all in a gig rig setup (mixer rack built in on top.) I have owned a lot of peavey and DOD and Carvin, and am ready for a step up in quality. I own a DBX 266xl compressor that I think I'll keep, but beyond that, I am open for suggestions. I would like to have a tube preamp of some sort, some effects, amp for small pa speakers and ?????
I appreciate all the comments.

$$$$??? Yep money is ALWAYS an issue for most of us. However, a few sage pros on this board have always advocated buy once buy smart. Most of the time this means spending MORE!! Having said that, my two cents worth: If u can afford it, analog mixer go Allen & Heath or then Mackie b4 Berhinger. Amp, Hafler trans nova, MOSFET is a big WOW! Tube: many seem to have and love ART Tube MP, I have an ART Tube Channel and love it ( ONLY SINGLE channel with para EQ and basic comp). Comp: RNC, RNC, RNC and its, very affordable. Effects: what do you want? Lexicon is sweet, MPX1 very nice and programmable $649, MPX100 - I still feel sounds very nice albeit limited and can't be PUSHED too hard; very affordable. A real cool box that I LIKE is the dbx DDP check it out @ dbxpro.com I think it's a real, real sweet box and very programmable - dual channel comp, gate, limiter, desser and expander. Has many coolsounding presets that can be altered in many, many ways to suit your particular program and stored. Mixdown deck: I HAVE & LOVE the Masterlink think it blows the doors off dat, but it's pricey and if you have or will be heading "DAW" the road that'll be overlapping da link a bit. Good luck, have fun & burn it in the red!!
