Zip,
thanks for the links. I'll check it tonite!

P Hallin,
var det nåt fel med artikeln eller? (excuse my language):)

guhlenn,
I don't know you but you have an amazing ability of not contributing to this thread. If people would keep to the subject or at least try to bring the discussion forward this thread would be so much easier to grasp and to follow in general. There are other venues more suited for chating.

of course

although there is already 7+ pages of responses to how awesome this is...

i really should say thanks. Between this, and a main few other threads (that everyone i'm sure's been a part of), i'm finally learning how to actually get a decent sound out of my mix, esp. with what i have to work with.

also, i hope that as soon as i post a mix or 2 of mine in the mp3 clinic - ed, vox, gidge, etc. will all take a look and cretique it for me.

nice.

THANK YOU SONUSMAN !!!!!

(I know the ass kissing festival for sonusman is over but, im a little late to the party)

First of all thank you sonusman ,, or Ed ,, but I dont know you like that . But anyway ,, I have just been recording a couple of songs to upload to my site ,, and they all have had problems just like you described. It was like you were god sent , really ,,my mixes were way too bassy ,, I had lots of inconsistantsies with my eq skillz all that newbie shit ... but I was going to get on google and search for mixing text files for beginners ,, blah blah ,, but I decided to come back to the (good ole home rec site) and bamm ,, you just answer all my questions and then some,,, You just hosted a clinic on the shit ,,, and I know its like basic rules for "Pro Engineers" but you do have a good way of scaling that shit down to the super newbie level of where I stand ,, and so many others.. Thank god for this site ,, and for peeps like you who actually give a fuck....:D

P.S ,,,, Someone mentioned earlier about this Bob Katz guy ,, I just talked to him a month ago about mixing and mastering my stuff ... Is he lagit , , or is he a quack ,, that overprices this mastering crap...

giggsy,

no you don't know me, and obviously your new... this thread died a year ago (when ED decided he ranted for long enough...), now everyone is keepin this thread up for newbies to read...

oh and BTW i pried myself in being able to say nothing in 1000 words... bring it on!:D:D:D

on the pther hand; noones is contributing; everyone is only chitchatting or kissing ED's ass... And you haven't "contributed" much either have ya

There is no price to be won for being most "contributing to a thread", well there's the status of halfgod , but that's only for the Ed's ....

so start contributing or you ass will be kicked.... NOT

Guhlenn:cool:

guhlenn,

"and obviously your new"

don't think you checked when I registered...
I'm nowhere near a newbie either here or as a sound engineer, I just like it better when people try to keep to the subject of a thread then when they chat around. To me that's contributing. It's hard enough to dig thru a thread anyway. You don't just contribute when you answer a question. You contribute by asking too.

Unlike many people here I hate flaming and negative bullshit. I'd rather read some constructive critisism instead.

Anyways, I won't argue with you and from now on I'll keep to the subject.

Have a great recording life and stay cool.

giggsy

well it doesn't really matter when you subscribed now does it? and yes you're right asking is contributing too... but you posted 49 times so please... and i was reffering to the site, i obviously have no clue bout your personal life

"Unlike many people here I hate flaming and negative bullshit. "

well ...

"guhlenn, I don't know you but you have an amazing ability of not contributing to this thread"

This does not look like you're being "constructive", it does seem rather sarcastic too me... ofcourse i had to react...

but then again "Anyways, I won't argue with you "

you already did...

But i'll be cool...

remember i'm only reactin'...

Guhlenn being very

And now....

...for something completely different...

I'll whip u both whit da chains stickin outta my head!! ;);)

Kidding!

Have fun and I'm back to contributing...

...sorry about the delay...

...please fasten your seatbelts and make sure your seatbacks and tray tables are in the upright position...

...thank you for flying zipair... :D

Hmm. All this god talk. I am not sure Mr.sonusman was looking for that! While there is nothing really earth shaking in his thread here, I can't say that I have ever seen another writing that spells out this many production ideas in one volume either. I have read a lot of articles about recording, and have never seen some of these ideas covered. I wonder why?

I am a Creep!

Bob Katz is one of the top Mastering Engineers around, his technical knowledge of the process, equipment and music is invalueable. His website is a great resource for people to get an idea of what is below the surface. When you get to the level of musicianship and audio engineering that requires Bobs services, money isn't usually an issue, because the label you signed to pays the bill. Its about as legit and real as it gets.

Peace,
Dennis

proof in the pudding

I have done a course on audio engineering and learnt alot of what has been talked in this thread .then when i started recording for myself(as opposed to being recorded by someone else) I promtly forgot it all and charged headlong into every mistake posible, overcompression, bad verb,e.q.boosts that were just plain bad. Then I read the first couple of sugestions here and it all came flooding back.Allthough alot of this is common sense it wasn't to common until i got my mojo back. Now I have gone back over some of my projects with my new/old fine thooth comb and the results have been drastic.I found this thing called clarity and another thing called space. I cant think of how to say thanks for this wind fall of info and as soon as it is in book form I will buy a copy so as i can give a monetory thank you . I have been especily carful with recording my bands new cd have fantastic results and have this thread is to blame. these are basic things that we must alll heed or you could end up in the dynamicless void that I have just cclimed out of

thanks ,,, but.....

When you get to the level of musicianship and audio engineering that requires Bobs services,

Thanks dude for clearing up that misconception about Bob Katz.. But lets not get confused about musicianship and audio engineering. I am planning on an independent label,,(my own) and yes , I am still working to pay the bills , and I dont plan on getting rich off music,, I just want to keep the soul,, and in my mind signing to a label , just makes you compramise alot of aspects of your music... just because I am clueless about the mixing/mastering world ,, doesnt mean I am not at a level of musicianship to talk to anyone... They are two differant worlds , and I hope all these people arn't worried so much about the technical side of music , and spending so much time learning how to mix there music ,, they forget the song:D

but thanks for the heads up

we did the song vs. recordingquality thing over and over... matter of fact,;

i would sell my soul (well to whom:rolleyes: but anyway) to get a few months with a top engineer (rick rubin) and then bring my already mofo great album to bob where he makes an even more precious jem out of it...

but then again

guhlenn;)

Big Up Ed!

Being a newbie,
This has been about the most eventful day in my Recording learning curve.
I have to thank Dobro for directing me here.
What better way for a guy to learn.

And Ed, before you think of publishing, first refine it here- ofcourse I want to get the rest!......lol

Cheers though
Keep it coming
I might be the best producer in my country yet!...lol

Hey, I'm going out on a limb here and will except all comments from Ed and the other pro's here. I'm pretty pleased with my mix of my song "Ain't enough time in a day". But I'm not totally satisfied by any means. Feel free to rip into me and let me know how I srewed up! I want to learn what I'm doing wrong. The recording was done on a Korg d1600. I am not pushing a listen for listening sake by any means. I just want the teachers to read my report and grade me. If this is not acceptable to do in this thread, I apologize. But I think all will learn from this refrence point, all that need teaching that is. Thanks Ed for such invaluable information!

I know someone took the Famous Harvey thread and compiled it on to a site with the meat of what he was saying. I was looking to see if someone had done that with this, and couldn't find anything, But I could have easily missed it. if it was done will you humor me and post a link, or at least what page it was on. :)
