Okay the subject is obvious enough. I am about to try and order a Strat.

Being where I am it is difficult too test too many of them.

I am currently looking at getting either the standard USA Series or the vintage '57 reissue.

Which would you recommend?

Another question:
If I got the standard strat and then got the vintage reissue pups, would it make much difference really?
Your thoughts?
PS: I will mainly be recording not playing live.

Its all about the neck radius, shape, and the fret size. ...that and what the neck is made of (maple or rosewood).

After that the pickups come into play and they will all sound good for the most part.

Yeah not sure what i *really* want in a radius yet I need to figure that out though the best guitar I owned was a jackson so I will likely try and stick close to that....

The neck will be maple.

That is available on both versions which is why I didn't mention it.

Cheers!

If you want a radius close to your Jackson, you want the Am. Stan. Jackson's have extremly flat fingerboards, so the very round fingerboard on the reissue will feel very different.

Yah I am sort of glad to hear that, so now I just gotta look into the pickup side of things - but thanks for that knowledge its good to know!

Yeah, I have to agree with the above. Do you really want a strat? It costs a fortune to get a decent one and strats just seem flaky to me...you just don't know how they are going to act day to day. I actually like my Yamaha fake strat better...

G&L's are fantastic, but I've only played a few. And, to be fair, I have played only a few strats before I kind of gave up on them.

If you like a wide, thin neck of a jackson with the flat fretboards, you'll have a hard time getting used to a strats neck, they are narrower, thicker and have very round fretboards, especially the reissues with the rolled edges. Make sure you play one first, they definitely aren't for everyone, just like the shredding guitar necks on jacksons.

Have you played a strat that was made in the last 4-5 years? They're pretty damn nice for a mass produced guitar. I owned a 2002 and it was a very good guitar. I also owned a G & L Legacey Special. It was also a nice guitar but I liked the American strat alot better. Both had very solid necks and no hint of flakiness. The Mexican strat I owned was a little unstable and was'nt a dream to play, but it was one of my favorite guitars.

If I were you, I'd go for a new American strat. I don't think you could go wrong. There should be some place nearby to try one out.

Well we are getting a bit closer now..
Yeah I have played a couple of strats, they were mexican made, but yes, i most definitely will be playing any guitar I go to buy before putting the money over the counter. Which is part of the issue with suggestions above, it is easy for me to play American Fenders, but not all other co's by a long shot.
That does really limit my ability to get a new guitar unless I make a bigger leap of faith than I am willing to. At least with the strat I will be able to play it.
