"I Want You" - 3 Guitars, Ghostly Sound

Hey all!

I was wondering if you could give me a critique on this one I just laid down.

I had three guitar tracks in it. Not sure if I did right by putting both the rhythms on the center. I put the lead slightly to the right. I know I probably should have raised the volume on the lead I think, but honestly it isn't such great playing so I tried to hide it a bit.

For the vocals, I did them twice to give an echoy feel. I tried playing with the echo effect but I couldn't get it to sound like I wanted. I think the slight differences in the voices give it slightly more character in the end anyways.

Hi

I think you have occasional timing issues with the three guitars there, but only minor.

I get that you're trying to get this particular sound but I think you've drowned it in too much reverb - I have no idea what you're singing in places. I'd also recommend you do a bit of editing and remove those lip-smacky sounds that happen when you open your mouth before you start singing... really don't like hearing that in my ears. There are some plosive iisues here and there as well and I think you need to compress a little or ride your fader as the volume varies a bit and jumps out from time to time.

I think you're on the right track, just needs a bit more work.

If it was me, I'd retrack the vocals, getting a little further away from the mic, less reverb, closer matching of the doubled part, although I understand your point about it not being too close.

Thanks that was a very helpful critique.

One question on the reverb. I got this comment also on a previous track I did, but I am using ANWIDA VST in Audacity which has pre-programmed reverb. In this track I am using the default option and in a previous one I was using "Small bright room". I'm a bit surprised that I'm not getting the reverb right when I'm using the lowest options in this program. Any suggestions/thoughts?

Unfortunately my program crashed after saving the mp3 so I won't be able to make the edits on this one, but I will definitely incorporate your comments into my next recording.

Anyone else?

My critique is identical. Some timing issues, strange sounding verb, etc. I'd get away from using presets on the plugins and start tuning up your own.
