I want to set up a cheap home recording system

Hello All,

I am looking to set up a little recording system for just personal use in my flat and don't want to spend a lot. Not looking for fantastic quality at this stage, just something I can record a song on and have a mess around with it. So I'm wondering which software people think is the best to use, I don't want something really simple because I do want to learn new things whilst I am doing it, so I want things that I can discover and play around with. I'm looking at buying a Behringer C-1U USB Condenser Mic so I can just plug straight into my computer not having to buy an interface or something I have to go through before the computer. I will be recording vocals and acoustic instruments (guitar and percussion). Just wanting to know which software I would be best downloading.

Any help would be very much appreciated

USB mics are generally a great way to start. I'd go for it, although I don't know too much about that mic. You might want to look at some reviews and demos to make sure it is a good one to go for.

Software: Go ahead and download Audacity and play with it for a week or so. When you feel ready, grab the free version of Reaper. It is a lot more advanced and might have a learning curve, but there are a lot of people on this site that can help you with it. Good luck!

I had a look around at quite a few reviews and decided against the behringer as everything i read was bad. I have ordered a Samson CO1U USB Condenser
now i am having a look at some good sounding but cheap headphones, looking at these Behringer HPX2000's...
