I want to make simple electornic music in my computer - HELP PLEASE!

I am curious if any simple programs are good for making basic beats for electronic type music? I have a stock sound card in my emachines computer, I do have Sonar 4 Producer Edition and if my memory serves me correctly it's possible to make basic tracks with the sounds it has?

I just want to know if I can make stuff without a midi controller and fancy sound card.

I don't know about Sonar, but Fruity Loops has some nice stuff for making beats. A lot of people use that, and it doesn't require a mid controller or fancy sound card. Hope you find what you're looking for!

you can use sonar but you'll need some kind of step sequencer to make beats easier...you can draw in midi in the piano roll mode which will get you some of the way...but a step sequencers the best for drums...

One i find really useful is iDrum by izotope...its $60 and comes with a ton of free kits and some beats to get you going (many based on the mpc)..

id consider dumping sonar 4...it may be limiting nowadays, and you can download and use Reaper for nothing, you are supposed to pay for a license after a month but if money is difficult perhaps pay for it when you can, it remains fully functional


Another option is Ableton Live...they have an intro version for $99 which is pretty amazing..I have the full version and it cost me well over three times that for little more function...it blows FL studio away with its flexibility, workflow, and warping ability, as well as being able to remix on the fly..

best thing for you is that it allows your pc keyboard to become a midi keyboard so you can actually play the notes, or beats, rather than draw them in

one to consider...however if its freebies you need just ask and i can point you in the right direction, some of the free stuff out there puts some over expensive vst's to shame

in my experience one of the most reliable software hosts for vst instruments is cubase. (for pc) logic for mac.
in any case u dont need a keyboard or anything to electronic music but u should think about monitor speakers so its a flat response
