I'm looking for a new mixer for my home recording studio. My price range is between $200-$300. I keep hearin people that say behringer sux, and some say that they're great for the price, so what type of mixer is giving you the most for your money. (P.S. I'm EXTREMELY new to recording so tell me everything you know about mixers.)

Alesis mixers are good - I use a Studio 24 and my friend has a Studio 32.
These are analog. They also have firewire models which are equally good.
Phonic makes a nice one too.

For fairly cheap, I like Yamaha. Behringer mixers work very well for the money until they die- and they usually (but not always) die. Your price range is pretty low, so you have limited options, and mixers are one of the things I would never buy used unless I got to try it out first. There are just too many moving parts, faders, switches, capacitors, and potentiometers to break. Most used mixers have something wrong with them, and if you are new to this, by the time you are done finding that out, and paying to get it fixed, it's not worth it. I'd say, just buy the best new mixer you can afford, which on your budget, includes the following:

I would steer clear of Soundcraft and Behringer, but there are some alternatives to the Yamaha, such as:

and the possible best overall bang for buck in your price range is:

All things considered, on your budget, I'd probably just buy the Carvin. The power amp section for driving passive monitors is a big plus for the Carvin.-Richie
