10 years ago I had a Mackie 1604, and an ADAT. I had to get rid of it, for reasons I won't go in to. A few years ago I got a FOSTEX FD-8. (it's one of those 1st generation desktop recorders) decent sound, knobs like a straight-ahead mixer. So, I'm ready to "move up" a little.

So, after much homework, I ordered a KORG d-1600 (16 track). I got it this week. I HATE IT. I won't use half of the features, and I'd rather concentrate on the music, not finding my way around the thing!

Can any of you with ADAT XT20'S OR LX 20'S tell me what boards you are using? I'd like to get a couple of LX 20'S. I'm thinking with a MACKIE 1604 mixer. Any suggestions? What would be a good buy on the LX-20 right now?

Any feedback much appreciated. Thanks

Mackie's 1604 & 1642 VLZPro both are ADAT-compatible.Both are equipped with balanced 1/4" direct outs of which affixing RCA adapters will allow you to operate.
Alesis Studio-24 & 32 mixers use Both RCA direct in's and out's
and offers a "Group" function allowing tracked signal to be proc'd "dry" or "wet" and bounced to another track at the same time.

Most of all ADAT's are compataible with any mixer that has D-O's and I's; 1/4" or RCA! Prior to purchasing the HD24, I owned 4 of those bad-boys and after selling off 2 of 'em, ( I will ALWAYS keep
at least 1 LX & XT) I know use 'em for archiving, occasional 2-track mixdowns and transfers!
Luv my HD24, but ADAT's RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULE !!!!

i have 2 XT 20s which I ALWAYS track to. Then i dump to the computer to mix via lightpipe or mix using the 1604vlz depending on "the sound" that is being looked for. Vegas Audio and computer FX/dynamics sound a lot different than their analog summing/outboard gear counterparts.

I sent the KORG d-1600 back today. I can program a VCR, but that desktop stuff is a bit over my head.
Ordered the Mackie 1604 vlz, xt20, lexicon reverb, few other toys. Thank God for KNOBS.

Knobs, You know I love em... Concentric Parametric eq's, imagine a function with a separate knob verses one knob for everything. The reason I can't dump the md8 is its analog mixer section. Im going back to analog completely, no more disc errors. I hope than I can pull of the Fostex G-16 and Ramsa WR-T820 deal... Knobs, I can't live with out them.
