i mean seriously if you guys think traktion is superior youve never worked with powertracks. your - and i have only one word to say - CRAZY !!! i just spent some very SERIOUS TIME with this product.
just the editing alone drove me nuts. just the audio editing alone.
there are a ton of features missing compared to what i use.
things are so SMALL and hard to see when your trying to do detailed work
in midi and audio by comparison with what i use. as for notation editing and doing things like viewing music staves I COULDNT FIND IT.
WHERE ARE THE MUSIC STAVES SHOWING THE MIDI NOTES PLAYING ??
i'm doing music - i need to see my music on staves.
the one thing i CAN SAY - it ran very smooth. but its missing a ton of features that i need. the visual display alone i just couldnt like.
the metering is rather pretty however. accuse me of bias, flame me - whatever - to each his own. but i tried really hard to like it.
and if anyone thinks its better than what i use. you obviously havent used what i have in the day to day detailed aspects of recording. i didnt even find a drum pattern maker built in.
before you accuse me of bias - I"M NOT. i just dont like it.
its missing a score of features i need !
i'll continue paying my 29 bucks every couple of years to upgrade powertracks to new versions thanks. and be glad doing so !!

that's it manning i've had enough of your crap!!! haha just kidding. no it's good to see that somebody actuallly went and spend some time with a program before he/she flamed it. to each his own. I think the final cut plug for traction is awsome but for nothing will beat sonar in midi work so that doesn't concern me. powertracks doesn't suuport vst plugins though does it? that would be very annoying if it didin't.

mino. the sad thing is i tried REALLY HARD TO LIKE IT.
i mean i really really did after all the big talk by folks on here.
actually you CAN use vst plug ins in powertracks.
its just that the built in effects in powertracks are darn good.
i mean in traktion i couldnt even find some basic stuff i need.
maybe someone can tell me how you edit midi note durations.
couldnt find it. also not guitar fretboard display in traktion to see midi notes playing.
in fact after awhile i just got so darn annoyed and pi**ed off
that traktion wouldnt let me do things i accept as second nature in powertracks. I"M NOT BIASED. JUST HIGHLY TEED OFF that i bothered to spend so much time trying to like traktion.

Manning,

The wind is blowing like crazy down here... wish it would stop! Thank God I don't have to drive the freeways much. I understand trucks are getting blown over right and left.

I understand that you are passionate about PowerTracks... boy do I understand. But lighten up! Even if I had water direct from the Fountain of Youth, not everybody is going to want it, like it if they taste it, believe that it is responsible for keeping them alive into their hundreds! That's just people. You like what you like, others have different tastes!

Hang in there.

by the way mino. by comparison , i think sonar is a very fine product that you use. my only comment is cakes pricing of it.

Tracktion hasn't been around that long, has it? It certainly hasn't been around and has had the development time that Powertracks has had. I've tried it myself - being that I'm use to Cubase SX, I wasn't fond of it right off the bat, but I think in general Tracktion is a good idea that will certainly see some futher development. I didn't find it hard to setup and get going with it, and yeah, it's not as feature rich as other packages, but again, give it time to develop.

Regarding VST's in Powertracks: it doens't support them natively, does it? I know it does DXi stuff, but for VST won't you need a wrapper? Also, VST's/DXi's are more than just effects plugins. There is a wide array of synth instruments available as well. I just say that because you mentioned that Powertracks already has great built-in effects - it's more than just effects.

warble. yes - powertracks does softsynths. go look at it sometime.
talk to users. i'm too spent and tired from my daft traktion experience.
in fact someone just posted on the forums how you could do
softsynths in real time even with band in a box.
i'm too teeded off having spent a insane time with traktion.
the editing alone is the biggest thing with me, as i do so much of it.

I have looked at Powertracks Manning...that's how I know it does DXi. I'm just asking if it does VST natively, I didn't see where it could without some kind of wrapper. I'm not trying to argue about Powertracks either - you need to chill a little bit. I wasn't implying anything bad about it at all.

sorry warble. yeh i'm calmer now. its just that the way people talked about traktion it was like some major darn breakthrough or the second coming.
so this time i really went into it with a fine tooth comb.
by the way what do you use ?
powertracks does need a wrapper to do vst's .
however doesnt seem to be a problem for most.
i never need it because the built in echo and reverb and other effects are so good in powertracks. yeh - gotta chill out.
too many crowds christmas shopping got me tired i guess !

Don't let Tracktion get you that wound up  While I think the Tracktion interface is certainly different in a cool way, I too wouldn't say it's a huge breakthtrough of gargantuan proportions. At least your spend some quality time with it. I didn't have mass amounts of time as I'm in the middle of project, but I did get her up and going and recorded some tracks.

I'm using Cubase SX3 right now for my main app, but have actually been working with Sonar 4 Producer at a friend's and am finding it pretty darn good. I'm finding that I prefer Sonars included plugs over Cubase's at this point. I don't mind spending the $$$ for these apps because I can make it back by recording for other's on occasion, and will hopefully make some money on CD's soon.

VST's can work well with wrappers. I know that Cakewalk's wrapper works well and is now included with Sonar. I think there are some free one's too.

As far as Christmas crowds, you'll find me shopping online. Have for the last couple years and boy does it make things easier.

merry christmas to you warble. sorry i forgot to mention that.
yeh - i shop on line too. have a good christmas.

Manning - - -geez man

Manning,

Can you relax on the PowerTracks promo?

Are you obsessed with PowerTracks? Are you okay?

Does it upset you that there are other applications?

Manning, I just hope you are okay, for at least a good year, we have only heard one thing from you. Perhaps we could put a "Manning loves Powertracks" sticky up on this forum to save your and those who read your posts sanity?

lD

Manning: I will start by saying powertracks is a smokin deal ,but when i expirmented w/ it (v8.0) i did'nt think it sounded that good.Note that i am not doing midi-just recording acoustic intruments.Do you think powertracks can hang w/ samplitude as far as sonic quality goes? Its not a huge night & day difference but i don't think it's as good.Have you done any a-b tests against samplitude or cubase? Just curios.
Also we could argue this for a long time! That will be fun!
PG could use a little better marketing too, check out:New Features in PowerTracks 8.0 video on their website. That is so lame! (the music in the demo) I can see why kids want nothing to do w/ powertracks!

lurker. with respect sound quality is dependent on your convertors in your sound card !!! powertracks only records what its given.
its a 32 bit engine for goodness sake.
also its now version 9. not 8.
try a high quality sound card like some of us users have, like a lynx for example...THEN TELL ME IT DOESNT SOUND GOOD !!
whats your sound card your using ?

I use delta 1010 that i have accused of being lame.I would like to upgrade.
I'm just saying that things don't seem to sound as good in powertracks as they do in samplitude. The more going on in the mix,the worse powertracks
sounds.Hey- it could all be in my head. All the samplitude dudes will tell you that it has better fidelity.I would like to learn more about midi so maybe i will upgrade to 9 and give it another shot.

Oh Gosh!!!
Manning, I SPENT 5+ hours to try to understand PT and I damn didnt get it!!! I got Tracktion in less than 10 mins. Yes, it does have things missing but its new and it'll improve. Your endless speech about how awesome PT is and now this crap about a product that is a 'child'. Grow up! (umm.. i'm way younger than you but still)
After all, how come many people do like Tracktion?? And when I asked in one thread who uses PT... I got 2 positive answers or so. umm.. stop throwing mud at random stuff. When I tested your damn favourite PT I looked at it with open mind and it was a positive experience even though I dont think it's good for my needs.
From your posts in this thread looks obviously that you went with the attitude of "I'm gonna prove that it sucks and my precious PT rules the World!"

actually traidma i didnt go into it with that attitude.
i NEVER DO !
your the only person ive heard of that needed 5 hours. pretty darn simple if you ask me just click on a track and record either audio or midi after setting the track type.
want to edit midi - bring up the notation window and edit.
want to edit audio bring up the waveform.
i find it instructive that on the pg forums it seems to be very experienced users of recording on there whove been thru the game of recording.
no - i dont get traktion - and never will. but PLEASE dont tell me i didnt go into it with an open mind. i tried too damn hard to like it.
even though it was sooo darn hard on my eyes. in fact i was bleary eyed trying to like it with all the "greenery".
in powertracks i get staves with notes on that are EASY TO SEE .
i can click on a note on a stave and do what i want.
all this futzing around in traktion plugging this into that.
NO I DONT GET IT. but will try it again when a new version comes out.
merry christmas.
ps..also if i'm sooo darn biased why do i like samplitude and saw studio so much !!

and another thing traidma. i'm not the only one not liking the traktion screen layout. just to show you how unbiased i am, after my traktion
experience i went to several other discussion forums on the web to see if it was ME who had a problem with its layout.
i found many other users making the same point as i about the GUI.
i just checked with the n tracks forum as but one example.
and the same thing was said. so its NOT ONLY ME !

Okidoki :)
Some people dont like Ferraris (just to keep away from the names we already named), some do. No need to go around and make a anti-fan club for something you dont like.

I'm not praising Tracktion to heaven myself. I know what it minuses are and I've stated them in the forums also. I just think the program has a very creative approach.

Even if you dont like the program, let others like it.

I LOVE THE GREENISH SET UP!

crap.

we actually had a couple of days without Manning's incessing testimonials and harping.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give it a rest.
