I think..for someone who knows Mixers...This should be easy

I'm mostly curious about my mixers digital window......Does my problem appear as if I have to select something in the digital display??

I am mostly familiar with TASCAM's analog range of mixers and recorders.

Do you have the owner's manual for the mixer?

If not, a 30 buck investment would probably tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the board including hook ups and navigating through it's menu system.

Also, if you could document a short, concise explanation of what you have, equipment wise in your recording chain and how you wish to hook it up and use it here on this forum rather then forcing us to read through a very long winded thread elsewhere.

yes i have a manual AND a video as well...........

i can read the manual and watch the video 100's of times.. and i have... but for some reason neither of them tell me WHAT I'm supposed to do to set up my channels i guess...



i really need some assistance with this...

all i could do is copy and paste from that other thread.. but it has pictures linked right in... plus another person replying trying to lend me some help... that thread really shows exactly where i am right now.


im so tired of typing and trying... honestly... ive been dealing with this for over 5 hours a day... for the past year...

if anyone can just take ten minutes out of their day to read that thread it would save me another year of this........ save me from this hellscape =)

I would try a simple test first just to see if you can get any sound back from the PC.

Is your Delta 44 configured properly ? I'm assuming that you've set the routing properly and made sure none of the inputs/outputs are muted, using the control panel for your sound card on the PC. I'm looking at your link to your other posts and I don't see any mention of setting up your sound card....

From your mixer hook up a 1/4 cable from the out 1 of the delta to the R ext input on the top of your mixer. Now do the same from out 2 on the delta to L ext input on the mixer.

Hook your monitors up with 1/4 from the Monitor output on the mixer.

Turn up the master on the mixer, Now play a CD on your PC. Any sound ?

i've been playing and making music using the EXT inputs on my mixer for the past year.... yes sound comes through just fine... i can hear it... it's beautiful =)

but getting hardware to run through my mixers channels isn't producing any sound... i can overload the channel, i can see that a signal is there entering the channel... but i cant hear a thing.

im really at a huge loss here about where my problem exists... is it my sound card properties? my mixer? i mean obviously i have no idea whatsoever... im trying to looking for a problem without a known name to me.

O.K. - Can you post a summary of how you are connecting your mixer to the Delta and a summary of your delta control panel routing ? (make sense?).

I have my synth (kurzweil k2000R) hooked up to my mixer using group A (Outs)...L and R channels running to the mixers 3 and 4 IN channels

I have 1 and 2 IN channels on the mixer running to 1 and 2 OUTS on my soundcard....

And on the mixer again....the AUX send channels 1 and 2 are running to the soundcards IN 1 and 2 channels....



as for the soundcard.... im not on that computer right now so i cant look... but I'd really like to know how I am supposed to set it up properly for this configuration

On analog mixers, auxiliary sends are normally a cue outputs intended for a headphone mix and not specifically for a recording buss send.

Perhaps this is why you are having routing/assignment problems? ...Because you are using the wrong outs on the mixer.

Traditionally, buss outs from a mixer feed the recorder and input channels are assigned to recording busses which in turn feed the recorder target.

Is this making sense to you? Because to my way of thinking in an analog realm, your cue mix outs could not feed the recording computer properly or assignably.

If your mixer has buss outs, traditionally at least 2 to 4 of them, those would be the output jacks you would use to feed the computer for recording to the hard drive.

Ya - Try taking Delta 1 & 2 out --> to the mixer ext in 1 & 2. Then group out 1 - 4 --> to delta 1 - 4 in.

On the delta control panel route 3 & 4 in to 1 & 2 out, so that you can monitor those channels when recording. Now make sure that 1 & 2 are routed to Mon Mixer.

I've always had this mixer set up the way vestat described...Im always listening to music so I've always had it set up this way to listen to my tunes.... but I'm not sure how to get sound into my computer....still no sound..

i then messed around with the routing options in my sound card properties a 1000 different ways...as i do every day...like im trying to play the lottery now....i've tried every possible way to set the audio cables up....i've done everything that everyone has told me to do for the past year....so many differnt websites i've gone over this....its turning into ground hog day and im freaked out like im beyond incompetent or something.

i dunno... im so lost

but i really think reading the link from the 1st post through is the only way someone's gonna solve this for me. (there are more pics of my mixer and info about where i am in this battle..it really describes exactly where i've been and where i am now... and i feel like it makes the most sense to leave that entire thread intact..just for reading and diargram purposes....)

Ghost of FM, what is a buss out?

Buss outputs are what is labeled on your mixer as GROUP outputs and you indeed have 4 of them.

Those GROUP output jacks are where you should be outputting signals from the mixer into your 4 channel input box on the computer.

Plug in a microphone into the mixer, assign it to one of the 4 GROUP outputs and that will get the sound flowing to where it is supposed to go on the computer, assuming that the software interface on the computer's side is installed and functioning properly.

You will never get it to work by trying a thousand random button pushes. You will get it to work by following out basic advice and sticking with it.

You kind of have to clear your head from all the frustration and memories of failure and take a fresh stab at it.

At times, I have considered going digital myself but then I read posts like this and I am glad to have and keep my trusty analog gear that works on simple plumbing logic, with no drop down menus and endless mouse clicks to do anything.

you are so right... an analogue mixer would have saved my life.

as soon as i can save up some loot im definitely going to buy an analogue mixer instead....but i really need to prove to myself that this mixer isn't broken (which im sure it isn't...its just us beind stupid cavemen as usual)...so that i'm not selling a broken piece of gear to someone else...plus im obviously gonna use it to learn on for the time being.


as for that microphone thing you said to try, i don't have a microphone and im not really sure what you were askin me to do either..

its not like im trying endless configuration patterns as i made it seem........im following everyones instructions down to a tee....but it's been an entire year ive been stuck on this... so obviously i've had time to take everyones advice and when it didnt work i've tried every other alternative connection.. and set up in my soundcard...a year is a LONG time.... i've had nothing better to do while waiting in between posts and whatnot....but i never meant to try and make it seem like im sitting here in a frenzy connecting and unconnecting cables at random...

what i want most is to follow one person instructions of course! just tell me exactly what to do and i'll do it....but when i dont get any sound what do i do next? cuz this is the endless pattern i am stuck in right now........i have been following everyones directions perfectly..every single time. i can see that their is a signal in the channel on my mixer but i get no audio...im way beyond hooking up the cables by now.........im stuck with the cables hooked up properly and i can see the channel overloading when i mess with the trim knob. but wheres my audio? where is my problem lying most likely? i need some intuitive guesses more than anything

Well, you can verify if the mixer is working properly by taking your computer audio related gear out of the loop entirely.

Do you own a stereo system of some kind with any form of line level input like a spare tape deck input as an example? If so, plug the GROUP outputs into that tape input on your stereo and see if it passes sound on to your stereo system.

If it does, then the problem lays elsewhere in the computer end of things, either in the software or an actual hardware malfunction in that breakout box you have.

A process of elimination is the best way to approach and trouble shoot this problem.

By establishing what does work, we can narrow down what doesn't.

i don't think i have a stereo system that works here anymore unfortunately


all i can add at this point is to say that i'm using 1/4 jacks or whatever they're called for my synthesizers to hook into the mixers channels


i've always been able to use my mixer and hear sound just not in the LINE IN channels

so my soundcard has always worked fine


i've used the synthesizer and listened to it's sounds here many times... it works fine


never have i been able to hear a sound when i have my stuff hooked into the LINE IN channels on my mixer

but i can see that a signal is entering the LINE IN channel... I just can't hear it

What about just bypassing the computer all together at this point to see if your mixer is the issue or not ? Can you unhook all the connections into/out of the computer, and just make sure your monitors are plugged into the mixer ? Now if you hook up your keyboard to the mixer do you hear any sound ?

I am not sure about the 100 steps but there are a definite number of steps that are required to set up that TD-M1000 digital mixer.

From Musicians Friend's web-site, I downloaded the owner's manual, and quick start guide and in regards to setting up the board, there was an "Initialize" process which basically was like a re-set function to set everything back to the original out of the box condition of all the setting. This will erase all of your snap shots though!

The other thing of note;

There are 16 line level inputs on your mixer. Have you tried all 16?

If you have Initialized the board, tried all 16 line inputs, are successfully assigning the channel in usage correctly to the Group output of your choosing, and not hearing sound though the headphone out of the mixer or though the monitor, stereo outs on the right hand side of the board, then your mixer may well be defective and in need of professional service.
