Until recently I have been doing this: Guitar - Amp - Behringher Compressor - Tascam 488 line input... I have just been using my compressor for bass.

I know there is a more 'proper' way hooking up my compressor via the insert points on the front of my 488. I just cannot remember what cable i need. I know it has a split in it. Also i cant seem to find anywhere that sells these split cables. Is there a proper name for this lead i should be asking for? or looking for on turnkey or studiospares (online UK stores).
I want to try recording vocals with compression and limiting. (until now, the compression has come while mixing down, via the send/return effects loop with a multi effects processor - it seems the true purpose of my stand alone compressor is being wasted on me)

Whats that lead? How does it actually compress the signal when im recording on track 1 or 8 via XLR mic input 1?

Thanks for any help.

The cable you'r elooking for is called an INSERT CABLE... it has a TRS plug at one end that breaks into 2 TS plugs at the other end.

Excuse the ignorance... what does TRS stand for? i know it involves a stereo tip or somthing. Which end is mono and which is stereo?

Hey Ben.

Remember when I said I'd give you my splitter cable?

It's FINALLY on it's way.

Should be with you Tuesday. Wednesday at the latest

:o

Hey Mark!

Thats great mate! I owe you a pint.Thanks.
Ps: remember when said you'd send me that Neve console..??

(Haha) I will let you know when i get it.

To let you know mate, i went to Liverpool this weekend. Took in Strawberry Fields, Johns house at Menlove avenue and had a few drinks in the Cavern Club before posing on the stage (THE stage) for some photo's hahaha!!! A good time. Gorgeous place.
Just incase i managaed to impress you and thanks again for the lead!

Ben

Wait, Mark was supposed to be sending that Neve to me! You filthy trickster!! :p:D

So you don't want the mint condition U47 and C12 then?

It's either those or the Neve. You can't have both :p

Decisions, decisions ... I'll take the mics. Then I'll be able to justify blowing big money on pres!

Mark, got the lead mate! Thanks very much. I can honestly say its made 100% more use of my compressor, I can now record my vox better. First thing i did was do a vocal this evening for a songwriting competition im entering.

I think your lead has just put me in first place!
(PS: whats the other one)

It's an XLR to balanced TRS 1/4" phone plug.

I figured you might find some use for it :)

Yeah i really like a little compression on my vocals on the way in. makes them nice and prominent. Anyone got any favourite settings or cool effects that they can get from their compressor?

Damn, just missed a mint Zoom RFX 2000 on ebay. Damn!!!! I wanted that!!!!
