I got a lot of great feedback and advice on my earlier rough mix of this track. Here is the updated mix which I think is a lot better. For me, mixing sometimes turns into tunnel vision and to get out of it I basically start over from the basic tracks. I don’t usually automate a lot with micro level adjustments but on the harsh lead guitar playing the relentless riff I ended up automating the volume levels on almost every beat to make it pump more and give it energy, while at the same time tucking the overall level back down some. I also learned that with a stem on a stereo bus that if you want a center mono signal then it is better to pan the L & R on the stereo bus to the middle.
I just got Final Cut Pro on my IPad and am now using it with Logic Pro on my IPad to make my videos. Mostly they are guitar demo videos featuring the guitars we build, but I also make these simple music videos. Up til now I’ve been using iMovie but this one is done in FCP on my IPad. I’m about to try using my iPad and Logic for mixing out of my console.
