Very cool, don't know if I've ever heard something in 9/4. The second mix definitely sounds bigger and better.

Thanks!

its a kinda mix between lo fi and normal fi ;)

the drums do sound boxy, but you know after a bit they become a bit of your signature sound...I dont know if Id pursue anything else with them...the vocals and guitar keep it floating above the total lofi mark just fine

all sounds suitably..odd..I think

good work Steve :)

I don't think I've heard much music described as normal fi. We should try to make that a thing!
Thanks!

If you plan to work on your mixes, get some benchmarks to use as references. Study some songs that you think have been mixed really well and suit your style. Use some frequency analysis tools to give you an objective view/comparison with your own mixes. This may provide some useful insight, but in the end go with what you subjectively enjoy.

You have an interesting sound. My opinion is your vocal is a bit too wide in this. I would prefer it to be more direct and own the centre on top of the bass and drums (the backup lines can be wide). Doing that might require some adjustment to the bass and drums... but it's just an opinion.

Yeah, I'm really bad about critically listening to the stuff I like to figure out what's going on. :(
I normally have the vocals closer to center, but with the way the parts overlap on the chorus, I figured I should separate them from each other.

Totally cool Steve!
Yeah, the drums...but if that's what you're going for, then that's cool. They don't sound bad. Your recordings keep getting better.

Thanks!

Yeah I stopped trying to critique your stuff because I thought you wanted it to sound this way. I just listen cuz it's fun.

It's definitely not polished and professional. It's more garage punk lo-fi. If you want it better, you're gonna have to start with the drums. The drums completely make or break a home recording. Some people might disagree, but they're wrong. Do you hear any pro mixes with boxy, thin sounding drums? No. Get the drums sounding good first, and the rest is easy.

So you're saying I'm above criticism? Score! :D

Haha. I guess I thought you were above criticism when I thought you wanted your mixes to sound like this. I mean, they're not terrible, but they can ceretainly be much better. I assumed that this was your style and it's how you wanted it.

I don't even really know what I want out of my productions, really. I'm just a songwriter who got in to recording because otherwise my songs would never get recorded.

I suppose if it sounds decent and intentional, I probably don't mind if it doesn't sound too professional.

Primus. Thats all.

No not really.

I like your production VHS. I mean greg has a very valid point that they could sound much better. They could. But i like your lo-fi approach. I am not sure your songs would have the same feel if it was as perfect as it could be. You know. If your lyrics and musical catchy/quirkyness were far below the standard you have set for yourself, I would suggest fine tuning your audio captruing techniques.

The creativity and songwriting more then makes up for any lack in quality.

But this does indeed sound thinner then some of your other stuff? IS there even a kick drum at all? I am at work and ican't really hear it. It may be there? And i think with the way this song in particular is structured and written your bass guitar should be more of a driving force then your guits in this guy.

But only i cause i can't help but think of Primus when i listen to it. So..

Its crispy and sizzly. Could use some low to mid eq'ing.

I can't get it to play, Steve. Did you take it down? It downloads but there is no sound. Maybe I just went deaf. That would suck.

Wig

Thanks Atom! Yeah, I'm re-listening, and I'm not sure where the kick went either...

Xeries: I'm not sure. The song is still up. I sure hope you didn't randomly go deaf. That would suck!
