i plan on getting a AKG Perception 200 Condenser Microphone (let me know what yall think bout this mic too)

well im new to all this so what is yalls say on amp i should get with this?

thanks

One suggestion (there will be others) M-Audio DMP3. It's a budget item, simple and sounds clean. Stay away from the "tube" stuff in this end of the budget spectrum.

I second that. Stay away from any tube preamp that's less than $400. TubePre, TubeMP, whatever. Gross. Get yourself a DMP3, they rule.

M-Audio's DMP3 mic pre is a 2 channel, solid state mic pre with good clean gain. IMHO a great performer for the budget studio.

The cheap "tube" units on the market usually use a starved plate design in which the entire signal doesn't usually pass through the tube. These are cheap designs and are really a marketing gimmick. They have a "tube like" effect on the audio and can be useful in some cases but more often than not, they just add noise to the signal. Units such as the PreSonus Tubepre and the Behringer Ultragain fit this descrption.

I'm not completely down or against these types of units and I believe that they can serve a purpose but for the person starting out, I'd suggest sticking with equipment that will render the cleanest recording possible...then "tweak" the sound as needed with EQ, compression, effects, etc. after the fact.

Just my opinion of course and others may disagree. I suggest that you do your homework and if/when ever possible, try before you buy or atleast look into the return/exchange policy.
