Im just about done mixing my 5 song ep and i need to get it mastered. Any suggestion as to where would be a good place to do this? thanks. my budget is pretty broad

one of my best friends from berklee college of music graduated a year or two ago, does some incredible mastering for fairly cheap. He does free revisions, too. his degree is in production engineering, graduated cum laude, or magnum cum laude or something, I forget. pm if you're curious or would like samples or the like.

Mark -- thanks for the referral - I appreciate it; but I should point out that my studio isn't a mastering house - that pkg you linked to was for mixing!

I've used both John at Massive Mastering, and Tom at The Mastering House and they've both been excellent!

I'll throw my hat in the ring here. Check out the website in my sig.

wow, thanks for all the replies. time to start researching.

Jim DeMain at Yes Master in Nashville. if you need his contact info let me know. I have worked with him on two projects he has a gift

Kinda like:
1. "He has a good ear"
2. "So what's wrong with the other one?"

Find some records you like and look at the credits, if you see the same name more than once or twice, give them a call...

And there's this place I heard about

And there's this place I heard about......near Jax, FL :)

Doh! NOT!

And Brad's one of the best. (John and Tom, mentioned earlier, ain't too shabby either.) ;)

Thanks Harvey!

FWIW As I look through my reference CDs the one name that seems to consistently pop-up is Bob Ludwig.

Which begs the thread, "Who are the favorite MEs among MEs?"
(not including yourself of course)

I think Emily Lazar is pretty smokin.'

Her mastering is good, too.

im thinking that maybe i want to be there during the process. Does anyone know of any places in south florida? (miami, west palm, fort lauderdale etc...)

Don't do it man. You'll hate yourself in the morning.
I've had several groups backseat mix and master the same project more than twice.

I shouldn't complain since I make more money when they tell me what to do. Once....Twice.....etc.

I've yet to have someone looking over my shoulder that was happy with the first mix or mastering job.

Everyone suddenly becomes an expert and the project almost always falls apart.
