I have been extremely poor most of my life.....until recently....hehe..I was never able to buy equipment before.

Anyway, i got a cheasy guitar amp. I need something good now, not something too expensive. I am specifically looking for the sound of VanHalen. Does anyone know what's the best amp and the best effects pedals(preferably a processor module) I can get?

I do play some vanhalen. But on my $80.00 amp, it sucks!

Anyone got anything to say on the CRATE DXJ112 modelling amp? I am intersted.

No... I've never used a Crate, only at someones house, it was ok.

Depends on what you want to use it for.
Club gigs?
Larger places?
Outdoors?

Wattage, speaker output, extras.

Figure out what you want. Get the best you can afford.

Fender
Marshall
Just about any amp will work, but you need to play and listen to them, with the guitar you going to use.

Concider the Older, used Tube amps. Full phat sound.
Listen to the solid state amps.

Listen to what other people say, weigh the information you've learned and make an intellegent decision.

A hands on test at the amp shop is your best bet. Keep your amp tests within your price range.

Good luck.

The Peavey 5150 stuff is supposed to give you the Eddie sound. Dont take this mean that I recomend Peavey, just passing on the info.

It depends on what era Van Halen tone you are looking for. I owned a 5150 right when they came out. It was pretty close to his tone at the time. However, the clean channel wasn't great. They may have fixed the clean channel with the 5150 II.

On earlier albums he used a hot Marshall and a lot of flanger/chorus and reverb. If you don't mod a Marshall, you can push it harder with a TubeScreamer to get the extra gain. He also has used a lot of delay on some solos.

Gidge's links go more in depth.

So much of it is in the fingers... ;)

OK I guess I will go and buy a few fingers then.
Thanks Lopp. I will research into your suggestion. The thing is I live in an apartment. It's hard to get any voluem at all. It sucks!!!

So you want to sound like Eddie Van Halen?

Hee, hee , hee...

It will take a lot more....

ha, ha, ha,

than any amp...

ahee, hee, hee, ha ha,...

or guitar you can possibly buy....

AHAW, HAW, HAW, HAW....

wants to sound like Eddie Van Halen! (snicker)

But seriously... we ALL want to sound like EVH. Here's the thing: EVH could come to your house and play on the gear you currently own.... AND SOUND LIKE EVH.

THe three most important things to becoming a good guitarist are...practice, practice, and practice.

I know how it feels to not have the dough to buy the nicest gear. I was there for a long time. Practice your fingers off with what you have now, and that talent can put you in a position to get the gear later.

And for the time being, probably the cheapest way to a decent, Edward-like tone would be a POD, J-Station, or similar modeling device.

Best of luck!

For the record.......I DON'T.

Guys check out my CD here: www.cdstreet.com/artists/andrewthill
There are a few MP3 samples you can check out. Specifically "Oblivion" and "guitar riotin'"

Some of the lead solos will make Eddy to situp. hehehe

The solos were played using a cheap Peavey Rage $80.00 amp. All other instuments were written on SONAR and it's soft synths.

For everyone who have given me input thanks:Gidge and also Texasroadkill.

Listening to your sound samples, I think a Pod or J-Station would change your life.

I don't know what you mean by "some of the lead solos will make Eddie to situp" since I don't know the expression...

but I do believe those solos would make him STAND UP and leave the room... :D

naaaaa, really... the tapping is more or less the tapping you do when you first got the hang of it.

but anyway - you wanted van halen sound, you get it:

buy a peavey tubefex. it WILL give you eddie's sound(s) easily... and you get a LOT of other sounds too.

Hey Charger!
Did you mean the Johnson POD?
Did you mean the Line6 JSATION?
Thanks!
