I need some help with a rigged voting contest.

Glad to be of assistance to you Mr.Gerst. Hope your feeling better.

I disagree with your approach. That it pissed you off beucase someone else 'salted" the ballots should tell you something. First, the validity of the contest is in question. The next thing is the whole idea that music is somehow a competitive sport. To me, it is not but hey, t thier own.

More importantly, if you found it distrubing that someone else engaged in nefarious pracices, the answer is not to respond in kind but to boycot that particular contest and encourage others to do so. The people who sponsor the contest have a responsibility to maintain the integrity. Frankly, having people on this site enter a vote for Alez's band and productions whether they have heard them o whether they have heard the competition only diminisges the value of the contest to the point that one has to wonder why it was important enough for you and your son to win to the point of wining becoming the means and the end.

The main point is that the integrity and therefore the meaning and value of the contest were severely dminished before youre request. After you request, the contest becomes for all intents and purposes, completely meaningless. And, finally, I reiterate, musical contests seem to miss the poinst of music anyway. I canno ever recall purchasing a CD or Vinyl record becuase the artist won some kind of radio sponsored contest.

By the way, this is no way is a reflection on some of the nice posts you have shared on this site and other sites and your personaly interity in the pro audio forum, it is "Soccer Dad" mentality and since you are a parent, unless you were superhuman, you would have a hard time avoiding this phenomenon completely. For that I feel for you, I just disagree.

Yeah, yeah......
But you know what????......

Sometimes you have to "hang up" the 'ol "right thing tuxedo"
and grab the neandrethal club and,... SMASH THEIR FUCKEN HEADS IN!

In Defense of jack.........

I see Jack Hammers point and I agree..... If the assholes are stealing your car, you shouldn't go and steal their car.... thats stooping to their level..... Boycott and media exposure of their tactics would be best in this case.... Blow the cover off of it.

But then and Again.... Eyes Like Fire has a good point too... FUCK EM!... Beat Them! :D

I'm going to vote now for your son Harvey..... It's the least I can do for all the advice I have taken from your posts..

Joe.

On behalf of Jack Hammer (we are one in the same - this is the work address that is home), Anyway, I never got to say something while the site was down and that is that I do not fault those that agree to vote and help. The Beat them if you can't join them attitude is sometimes the best. Maybe not exactly the case but...to those that did vote, there is no moral brow beating going on, just a point of view. And, that point was, most importantly, if the contest is fixed, does it have any validity.

Obviously, that is a discussion that has large implications particularly in the music biz which, by all accounts is, in this day and age, a rigged game anyway!!!

To that I say, if Mr. Gerst has worked to earn the respect and patronage of so many, he deserves the fruits of his labor.

All that said, ultimately, we are all responsible for a music making community that engenders integrity and respect.

I'm going to have to agree 100% with Jackhammer on this one.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but this is the first time I've ever honestly felt that Harvey has done something that totally lacks class.

No one's perfect, but Harvey, that pretty much sucks, and I would be disappointed if you didn't issue some sort of apology. Honestly, if you were a newby I'd probably tell you to fuck off and I'd report the post to the moderator.

But you've developed a lot of clout around here and elsewhere by being the pinacle of class and selflessness. This is sort of an abuse of that clout.

That said, if you'd have posted mp3's of your son's work, as well as that of his competitors, I would have gladly listened and voted honestly . . . although I'd probably be a little biased because Alex is your son.

That said, I hope you don't see this as a slam. I'm just a little disapointed, but I'll get over it . . . that's all.

I agree...,the contest loses its credibility when someone asks online to help pad the vote count with people who don't even listen to the music. At that point...who really gives a hoot?? Unless it leads to further rewards... ....but??

But...if winning the contest helps pay studio equipment costs...alls fair in love and war!!

You know, I agree with most of the comments, and hopefully, some of the other award's sites will reflect a more honest voting system.

I'm certainly proud and biased about the three albums that were nominated from Indian Trail. I'm going to be very curious to see if the best band voting matches the best album voting and best producer voting results.

To those of you who voted for Alex, I thank you.

To those of you who feel I was wrong for even asking, I apologize.

Would shouting "foul" during the last week of voting have accomplish anything? Not really, since I had no physical proof of rigging, just comments made by people whose word I trust.

I probably should have let it play out where ever it was headed, but I am VERY proud of the work we did on these albums.

But I do want to apologize to the people who felt my tactics were wrong.

Harvey, I voted 3 times... and I'd do it again in a heart beat... lol. You don't need to apologize to me, and I'm not going to apologize to anyone either. If you ever need my help again, just speak up and I'll be there for you, and I'm sure many others here will also. DJL

I agree....even though I thought it was silly, I voted too... You deserve a little something back from all that you have given.

I just can't believe that someone would ask me to compromise my cherished moral principles like that . . .

I mean, next year, Harvey, there's definitely going to have to be some free drugs involved if you want to buy my vote. :D And hookers.

The moral issue is moot. After all, Jesusfreak willingly and enthusiastically participated in the exercise... and if it is moral enough for Jesus, then who am i to question...? ;)

I was fine with voting for Alex-and did.
Next time I'd also be happy to listen to MP3's of his work.
You guys don't even want to KNOW what goes on behind the
scenes in the Oscar races, I'm friends with some Academy voters...
(and have been sworn to secrecy-no kidding!)

Chris

Littledog,

I was waiting for that one :)....actually the reason that I voted are two fold....One, I hate to see someone work hard at something and find out later that no matter how hard they worked, it was for nothing because the deal was already done to begin with. I've been treated like that and it wasn't a pleasant experience. Harvey's advice and the way that he deals with people only furthers to me that he is a stand up person who can be trusted and if he says that the deal is fixed, then I will believe him. Secondly, having 3 children of my own, I can completely understand what it feels like to have your child doing the best only to have someone that doesn't have a care in the world come up and put their foot in their face and push them down. NO parent would stand for that and sometimes in those times, rational thought or judgement goes right out the window because you want nothing more than to protect and help your children. So I guess I had a little fatherly sypathy for Harvey.

Is this all right or wrong?? I don't know....I see both sides and they both make sense to me..for now, I'll just have to live with my decision..once again, right or wrong.

God Bless!

Its time to let this thread die, and move on. Infact I wish a moderator would delete the whole dam thread. Hint, hint. DJL

I voted for Alex, and now cheeserock has made me feel dirty.:D
