Hi, I just got a BR-532 Digital Studio, I just want to record some songs I have, and I want to get the best quality out of it. Im new to this and I have just been plugging in my guitar and bass and going on that, but my bass sounds good, but my guitar's distortion doesnt sound very good quality, almost of an analog recording. Do I need a pod? Or Do I need to mic a guitar amp? help!

micing a amp is mostly the best way to get a good guitar sound. Distortion sucks if you just plug it direct. unless you use a pod. I do both. Sometimes i mic the amp and sometimes i run it through the pod. I't just a matter of taste. the guitar on this song "Jam" was recorded using a pod. www.nowhereradio.com/zeke/singles

But mainly, i would say mic the amp with a good'ol 57

If you want to record a distorted guitar, your best bet is to mic the amp. If you are recording from a cabinet, mic one speaker. Place your mic at the outside cone part of the speaker. I would also place another mic in the rear of the cabinet behind the speaker, actually just peaking in the cab for the sound of the cab as a whole. play and mix them together. so, you would need two tracks, if possible. If anyone agrees or disagrees please reply, because I am still learning too. Thanx.

That's odd, many guitarists prefer an analog sound.

Make your guitar/amp sound exactly as you want. Put a Sennheiser MD421 on one speaker, move it very little until you get the sound you are after.

Best of luck!
