its posted on the list as

is this one better?

I think it is.

.....of course anything with more guitars is better IMO :)

The mix is on par with other material I've heard in the same genre... you've got a distortion problem at certain spots (noticeable during drum shots and some of the vocals) -- maybe you pushed the limiting a bit too much...

Minor points I noticed - snare punches through a bit too much at times - same with the vocal....

Other than that - great job!

Thanx for youre help. :)

It sounds more than a DEMO to me, great job!!. Systmovadown said that he liked the bass??? Through those pc speakers that I have at work I can´t find it, where´s the bass???.

TS

It's sounding very good. Personally, I think you could bring up the bass just a little bit although it does start to shine through the mix towards the end, but other than that, it sounds much better than the first mix you put up. Sounds much less percussion dominated now.

I don't know.. I think that the drums are, over-all, a bit too loud in the mix. The synths could be brought back a tad as well, but now it's up to personal taste I suppose. The clean vocals seem a bit too distant, but that may be because of the drums ;)
It all feels a bit uneven, you know? Apart from that, great job on the recording - the drums sound really good, but seem too up front.
Just my two cents :)

I thought the same about the drums but I think is the kind of music what calls for upfront drums. They need to be loud.

ok so im hearing more bass.
think ill try to bring up its presence in the mix as opposed to bringing up the fader, dont want to geek the balance ive got going.

And the drums are too loud, ok this may be though because of the toms and the occasional loud double bass stuff. Ill turn the bass down on tom 3, and gain down the bass drum heavyness that pops out from time to time.
Ill have to play it by ear as to where the guitars go at that point.

Thanx for you opinions!
Its like ive got a team of listeneing experts at my disposal :)
Too cool!

Holy Shit!

That was insanely bad ass! Great mix, great music. I am a fan.

Wow!

That sounds completely different than your other mixes. I really like it. The only bad thing is the drums sound a little weak and lifeless.........J/K.....are they triggered?

It actually sounds very professional, and "finished". I am quite impressed. My only actual negative would be the drums are a little too big now, but that's a taste thing - I don't think it sounds bad now, I would just like to hear a little more guitar and bass (my taste - I like all 3 to be balanced more).

Great Job!

Would you explain how you did the drums?

Thanks,

NL5

DRUMS...

Old piece of crap tama rock star kit.
Good sabian cymbals.
New remo 1ply coated heads on the toms.
New Aquarian supre kick2 on the bd.
Allegra custom maple snare with an Evens g2 coated head.

MICS/TECHNIQUE...

I used audix d2 on the snare about 3 inches up from the head, its a hypercardioid, great for hi hat rejection.

Then a audix d6 on the kick, i took the front head off put two small pillows in and miced it about 5 inches from the beater slightly off axis to the right.

The toms are sennheiser md421's placed about 3 inches above the top heads pointed at the center. I eleveated the cymbals about 6incehes to alleaviate too much cymbal spill in the tom mics.

Overheads are Blue dragon flys. placed in a Y pattern diectly over the snare.

I went to the focusrite pres on the octopre with no compression/eq.

MIXING SCHEME...

I compressed the bd at a 4.01 ratio fast attack/fast release.
Then added a shit load of 3k and 8k for that triggerish sounding click it has.
(i love that sound :))

On the snare i added a little 1.2k to get that BANG! out of it,, and i added some 5 k for the snap. the d2 is actually a tom mic and has a boost at 300hz. So no need need to make it fatter in that department.
I compressed the snare at 4.01 as well.
Then added a stereo reverb with some slight reflections and about a half second tail, wich was enough reverb for the whole kit just from the bleed.
"phantom reverb"

The toms i bussed to a stereo fader and added a tape compression simulator to them.

I used a plug in called "Antares Tube" on the overheads to warm em up a bit.

Then bussed all those drum tracks to another stereo fader, and used an otari tape head simulator running at 30 ips on the whole drum mix.

And thanx Doombot!
Im happy you liked it man!

:D

I'm really impressed. This sounds like something that would be on my Winamp playlist. The drums sound great, especially the kick. The click is just right, and it still has great fullness to it. The vocals are right on, I think. I like what you did with the screams.

Excellent mix, xfinsterx.

Yeah, really well put together man! Not at all what I have on my winamp list, but no doubt of the production's worth. Can't say as I listened to any of the earlier mixes and I'm not exactly an expert on the genre but the drums do feel a little bit too amped, though it works for driving the song, and sh@* they are clear and crisp. Only thing I think could help would be a little more low end in general, both the bass and some low end on the kicks, but that may be the whole headphone thing coming out on my end. Anyways, I'll bet the band is pretty freakin pleased as it sounds really good on the whole.

Though my style is much different, let alone the energy level, I'd love to hear your thoughts on my newest tune "Jars, Bells and you" in the clinic, especially some tips on recording vocals as I'm pretty green in that department.

thanks, and nice skills,

laj
