Hi there! I need an owner's manual for the original Tascam 488 8-track. I already have the faxback for the 488 MkII from the Tascam site and it's not much use to me. If anybody has one to sell cheap or can send me a copy, I'd really appreciate it. If you do, email me at jimmie@jimmieearls.com Remember, the one I need is the original 488, not the MkII. Thanks!

Here's the info!

Ok, after emailing Tascam & TEAC, I got this reply. If anybody else is looking for an owner's manual for the 488, this may help!

"Dear Customer,

A photocopy of the owner's manual, part number 5700123804, is available at $14.00 each. Please add $4 shipping/handling per order for ground service within CONTINENTAL USA plus local and state sales taxes where applicable. Prices quoted are only for SHIPMENT WITHIN THE U.S. or its territories.

We are required to collect state sales tax for residents of Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington, and Minnesota regardless of shipping point. If you do not want us to collect state sales tax by adding it to your order, we must have a COPY of your resale or tax exempt certificate at the time the order is placed.

We can accept Visa, MasterCard, or money orders. There is a $10 minimum for credit card orders. No CODS or personal checks, please.

Thank you

Yo Cindy Cindy Cindy: [Good title for a song?]

Tascam/Teac ought to pay you 14 pezutos for trying to interpret their inept organization for writing manuals.

You should consider getting a digital box to record; the time you'll save in rewind/back to go along will astound you. The sound quality will be very superior. And, all those famous "clicks, pop, and squawks," associated with tape decks like the 488 will be history.

Since you seem like you are getting a copy of the manual, you would have no need of me copying you a few pages or all of it. I'd have to go to the basement and look to see what model I've retired.

Good luck and good recording luck.

Thanks GH...but I like the clicks, pops and squawks. When I recorded my first CD using ADAT and Cakewalk, it sucked...too sterile. For me personally, analog is the way to go. I like the human factor in my recordings. I've always used my ex-guitar player's Tascam 488 for my demos and now that I'm buying it from him, I just want the manual in case I really need it. I've already called TEAC and ordered the manual. Thanks for the advice anyway.
