itll vary from soft to rock to distorted to synth dance stuff

haha so like everything minus country.

i love my trusty ol' Ibanez soundgear. i also have a fender jazz bass which i got for free, so that was a good price for me! i still prefer the Ibanez. ;)

dang everyone loves their ibanez,

link me to your favorite one please.

my friend has one of those ibanez soundgears thats got a luthite body. its alright, i guess i can't complain. i honestly think the olp musicman that is half the price sounds and plays better, though.

If you can afford to pay a bit more, I would highly reccomend NOT getting an Ibanez gsr 200 as a first bass. Ive played that bass before, and personally I think it doesnt cut it as a bass for recording. In the 300 dollar range you will get something respectable that you will be able to use for a long time. Like I said before, opt for something second hand on ebay, you will be much happier in the long run.

i played a jay turner bass the other day and it wasnt too shabby,

i played it out of the 100watt ashdown(i think)

combo, not bad and it was only like 180.

just put some flatwounds on it and im sold.

ill see how low i can talk him down.

Out of curiousity, why do you need it to be good quality if you're gonna run it through a distortion pedal into a keyboard amp? Pick the cheapest fucker you can find and go with it. Seriously, cheap basses are fun as hell 'cause you can bang the shit out of 'em and not care.

Newbiedude, I just bid on an OLP on ebay based solely on your reccommendation. Twist my rubber arm, lol. Hope I get it. And hope you're right about OLP. I've f'd around with old Peavey basses and Squier so I figure ANYTHING is better than those. Just need a basic bass for recording anyways...

Define cheap? Rogue?
I think I remember seeing a rogue for <$90 in MF.
I figured it would make a decent bludgeoning weapon...

I'm curious as to how cheap I might find a new Ibanez w/actives. Then I'd probably feel obligated to throw down an extra $100 for a case...

This is an ebay link, a bit more expensive then 250, but worth it.

I would def pay a little extra for active electronics, i have an old soundgear
that is passive, sounds great, but lacks some spunk to it without the active electronics.

I got a Soundgear SR-885 5 string on ebay for less than $300 shipped with a hardshell case that was MINT (still had the stickers on it).

Not bad for a lower end instrument.

$90 would be acceptable to run through a distortion pedal into a keyboard amp, if you could swing for the fences on the drummers kit. And I mean kit, not drum machine.

ive had an ibanez gsr a year or two ago when i was in a metal band and effed shit up, and i didnt like it much.

i also had a washburn, and well, the head broke clean off.
