Lost Cause
..and had another go at our song Strange Kind of Paradise.

Tightened the drums, gave the guitar more space, tried bring some more life to the chorus with a simple piano part. But this production business is all too difficult for a humble bass player :) and I'm far too close to hear it objectively now. (For example I think the vox are perhaps mixed a bit too high but keep changing my mind) If anybody can bear to listen to it, it's the first song here:

strange kind of paradise -
any problems with it are beyond my powers of observation.
wow, that's nice stuff. she has a really pretty voice.
nice!
Chris

Thanks Chris. I commented on yours in roomx's thread

Cheers

I listened to strange kind of paradise as well.

It really sounds good. The only two MINOR things I hear, is the back Vox on the chorus is just a tad low for my taste, and the main vocal sounds a bit "dirty". I'd like to hear a little more crispness.

Good work!

Thanks. Yes, I wondered about bringing the bv's up a little. Might well do that. The singer is just dirty - I am marrying her next week :) (whoops - she'll read this. ;))

When I told my Dad that I was getting married he said, "Gee, it must be hell not to have any friends." I said, "Hey, I have friends!" He said, "No you don't. Cuz if you had friends they'd talk you out of it." ;)

Guess I deserved that for my Neil Diamond crack :)

The Neil Diamond crack never entered my mind when I wrote that. But I can hit you from here too. ;)

My Dad actually said that to me! He liked to cut up when he was alive. Been gone almost 4 years now and I still miss his sense of humor.

Seriously though, best of luck on the nups!

Yeah, I feel for you there - mine wasn't around for, ahem, either of my weddings!

Feel free to comment on our song by the way, just to get back on topic :)

Garry, much improved. I am listening right now. I'll give you some more to chew on when it's done....

The backing vocals could come up a tad, but other than that, it's sounding good. I would prefer them more centered or doubled and panned left and right, as they are coming out of only my left monitor and it's a bit distracting. Not in a bad way...

Nice tune, like I told you before.

Marry her quick, don't let that voice get away from you!

Thanks Rokket. BV's are panned L and R, the level on the R is too low. Will adjust that.

Do you like my new avatar ;)

Vox are sittin perfect (they are great BTW). I could use more guitar (I'm a guitar guy). Keep the rest...interesting stuff.

There would have been more if our guitarist hadn't gone Absent WithOut Leave. What there is in there I pieced together from various practice takes. Looking for a new guitar player now - :(

Yeah. I tried to resize it for you in the other thread, but it came out wrong!
Have a great honeymoon! Hopefully, I'll be here when you get back!

Cheers Rokket - I'll use the excuse of replying courteously to your post in teh vain hope of eliciting another listen and comment from somebody, otherwise let it gracefully slide away - thanks to all those who did comment.

My ex-wife and I played together in a band for 20 years. It just didn't work out. ;)

Listened to the mix and I'd like to hear more of the drums and less of the room. The drummer sounds like a light player so it's hard to pick up any definition. Maybe it's just me. Great voice on the little lady. Nice guitar work. My only gripe would be the drums.

Sanjan - thanks :)

7 string - oh well, ask me in twenty years' time ;)

Very interesting comment on the drums. It's not a real drummer, I made a MIDI track and used it to trigger Drumkit From Hell Superior samples. I did use low velocity hits, so your light player comment was spot on. When you process DFHS it gives you a separate wave file for each mic, and you mix them as if you had mic'd a kit, so the shortcomings will be in my mixing - there is a lot of the overheads in there and not much of the close mic's except for the kick. Thanks for the listen and the comments.
