You're right there.
My da used to buy well and buy once.
Things change though. I think we're on about the 3rd orbital sander this year.

Cheap power tools are just that. Most of my orbitals that get heavy use are air powered and have replaceable bearings. Most of the cheaper ones are not economically repairable.

I have two Elu routers, one 1/4 inch and one 1/2 inch that I acquired in the early eighties and they are still my go to routers and are on their first set of bearings... I use them daily and heaven only knows what I will do when they do die on me.

That's what failed on our dirt cheap ones.

Quite the project, old man! What kinda filler if any, on the body?

You are an artist. ;)

Normally I wouldn't usr filler but piece it all with wood. Route away what was damaged or missing and match up a new piece to insert and hide the join when finishing. As this is a dirt quick project I used car body filler that I would normally use on jigs and molds.

Those are the Stanley ones from the early eighties. Real work horses and good steel that holds an edge well. The recent Stanley stuff is nowhere near as good..

I have the black handled ones from back then! Exactly the same steel but they were polished to a mirror finish when new. I have my Dad's set (which are imperial sizes) and my own set which are metric equivalents. They're not exactly the same, size-for size - so I have a strange "extended" set with inbetweeny sizes. :D

I have so many old chisels I'm convinced that some of them are Brunswick sizes and they haven't used that measure since Pepes was a boy. I went through a phase when I was doing my apprenticeship of hunting out old tools from bric-a-brac shops and flea markets. Most are now confined to old oil wraps and never see the light of day. I'm going to dig some out and post some pics for a laugh...

As to polishing the face set. I'd rather do it myself because I've never bought a chisel or blade iron than was truly flat but I'm fussy about that shit..:o

They were only polished on the back.

Did that guitar survived earthquake or something like that?
I see only new guitar in this case, or getting parts from Ebay could be alternative:)
