I'm more leaning towards the wd40 and talcum approach myself but I will consider any advice.
Is that going to be part of the VP signature series?

Right. I gave both glue lines a good 36 hours to dry and just spent another 30 minutes on it this morning.
The neck first. The join is still visible but I scraped the finish off and checked it for stability.
I pulled the frets and removed the nut.
The next task is to repair the only piece of missing timber from the break.
I have a lot of running around to do today as I'm picking up a new motor. Hopefully more tomorrow.

There is method in my madness. I will bill them something ridiculous and then get to keep it. My boys are just starting to thrash around on guitars and take them out to mates houses for jammin etc etc.. Better one like this than one thats worth money.
I recon in total I will only spend about 5 hours on it and all that in odds here and there. The kids get a decent junker to play on..

Nah the wife had a multipla which I was using for a while. That has since gone to Fiat heaven. I've just scored a good deal on a Honda cv-r exec which be my runabout and family car from now.

Yea, unless you are really lucky them things got a useful lifespan of about two years, I got a Peugeot Boxer, rebadged Fiat Ducato, 30k, just outta warranty and it's knackered, water ingress, chinese steel doesn't like Scottish rain, who'd have thunk it eh?
Nice motors, wee bit thirsty but reliable, heart failure if you need parts.
So what you working on just now other than this Squier?

Excellent writeup, Multi. My worst repairs, just didn't have that many jobs/set ups to do; all at once.

So, I did finish the physical damage to the neck a week or so ago.
Here are the pics...
I'll try and do some more to it in the next few days but I'm away later this week at a Festival so mo promises.
It turns out it was sent through as a joke. One of the shops employees found it in a skip and sent it over. When it's done they are going to hang it in the shop windo with before and after pics along with the guitar. After that it's going to my kids. I'm thinking about what finish to do on it right now as I fancy doing some thing off the wall and fun...
Anyway, the last bit was to fix the missing timber on the fracture that didn't make it back into place.

Select a little bit of maple from my repair stock trying to match grain and colour..
get it to fit the missing gap. This is pretty much a matter of making a wedge shape that fits the gap.
Now thats done it can be glued in....
and help in place with Cellotape.
When it's dry clean up with a sharp knife...
And finish off with scrapers. Voila, big gap in the neck is gone...
