I just got a new microphone

ok well its not an SM-57 but it has low impendance and pretty good quality sound...My question is this...How do I point it at my amp? what part of the speaker cone should it be pointing to? How close should it be?

oh yeah I forgot to say wat kind of mic it is....Its a AudioTechnica ATR20 vocal/instrument mic...I know you mic experts are probably gonna laugh but at least im not using the computer mic anymore huh? : )

I start out by pointing the mic right at the line between the found part in the center of the speaker and where the cone starts to flare out. The mic is almost right against the grill. Then I listen to it- record a scratch track with no EQ or effects, and see how it sounds.

Then I tilt the mic a half inch out onto the cone by turning it on its swivel mount. Record and listen again.

Move another 1/2 inch and do the same again. Take notes on where you like it so that you can go back to the place that you liked it best.

There are tons of other ways to do it. That's just one way.

never tryed this but i wanna:

Turn the amp right up so you can hear the his noise, get the mic in a spot were the noise is the loudest through the mic, then turn the amp down and try record a scratch to see what it is like.

If you do this tell me what it is like, I also wanna know and can only try when I get back home next week.
