It had very good reviews at harmony central. The Fender clean sound was mentioned a few times.

reminds me of a boogie. looks cool and nice price for that versatile power setup!

EDIT:

wow. upon further inspection, that REALLY looks like a boogie!

maybe the flood of new cheap tube amps is giving some relief to some of the sleeper amps.

sure looks that way. last time i had about 500 bucks to spend. i barely got away with a decent solidstate, never mind vintage tubers with graphic eqs and 3 different power settings. or maybe that was just before i got hooked on ebay haha.

I have the same thing. I don't think they made that model in the carpet covering though. It was offered in black tolex and natural oak. Who knows..maybe some bonehead covered the oak with carpet and you'll find a beautiful finish hiding underneath. I chopped mine to use with a carvin slant 2x12 cab. It's got cleans that will peel your scalp off. The one I have has 6l6's, so maybe your el34 model is newer and was made in the carpet covering. Ihad many good years of service from mine.(hundreds of gigs.) So it should be pretty dependable.

I've got a version of that too. a combo 2x12, it's an x100 or something of the sort. Amazing low end, although the gain sound isn't quite my cup of tea. Mines sitting broken at the moment, gotta get it to a competent amp tech so I can crank it up and rock out! It gets amazingly loud.

You inspired me to dig out my early X-60. And I thank-you 'cause I found a mod online shortly afterwards that appears to improve the lacking gain channel. So hopefully after a couple hours with a solder gun, I'll have great Clean AND Overdrive.

I was already thinking about re-covering it, but I guess carvin did use the carpet.

i've never heard or played thru any carvin guitar amps.

I have an X100B head and a mutt 4 x 12. I use the low gain input exclusively. The high gain input loses something. I scoop the eq a bit as my amp/cab seems to be mid heavy. I keep the gain on 4 and the master around 11 with the boost on. The only thing it lacks is the sparkle of a great amp. Though I do not play with these settings it is a KILLER sound. Low input, NO boost, gain way up, master way up, gain boost mod engaged. Metallica from the mid eighties  .

I was looking on ebay to check out what boogie it's like and it looks just like the Mark 3. I doubt it's hand wired though.

I bought one of the X100s the first year they came out ('82?)...It had excellent tones, but the coupled the THREE gain pots together, making it a nightmare to dial in. The next year they came out with the X100B (to mimic the Marshall/HiWatt look) and I believe remedied the chaotic gain setup...

I traded that amp for a bass...Got the short end of the deal too...

Zappa was a huge fan of Carvin amps. Vai has a signature model. Joe Walsh uses the vintage models and a couple of their guitars.
