I just bought a Tascam 388

Hey folks, I bought a 388 last night. It is pretty clean and I'm hoping it'll give me the warm sound I'm looking for...I've been in digital for too long and can't take it anymore.

I don't have a manual for the 388. From the look of it, I can figure most everything out--Portastudio days, I miss you. But if anyone has the manual and would copy it for me (I can pay for expenses, trouble). Or if anybody knows where I can get one, please let me know.

Yeah, I caught your post on the Tascambbs.

Anyway, good choice on the 388, and good luck with that.

I think the best solution is to buy the manual from Tascam Parts dept [TEAC], and they can be reached for phone orders at (323)727-4840.

If it's in good condition and the heads have plenty of life left in them I'd say you made a good choice. Not that I'm biased mind.

I hope to start recording with it this weekend. I ordered a few reels of Quantegy tape and head cleaner yesterday. Should be here by Friday.

Right now I just stand above the thing and look at it for long periods of time. It looks very cool.

I just got one, too. I have the manual if anyone needs a copy.
Is it best to mixed down to analog tape, direct to cd or something else?

I thing the new en-vogue method is,...

to mix down from the recorder/mixer unit, directly to the computer soundcard's LINE IN, recording in 16-bit/stereo/44.1kHz WAV files, and then burning cdrs of your mixes.

RCA-to-1/8"-stereo Y-cable adapter is required, as is software to record WAV files, and then other software to lay out wav files into songlists and burn cds.
