I just bought a Jay Turser Tele.

It plays very well. It has the spicy, biting tone that I was wanting from a tele type guitar. My only complaint is that when I was putting new strings on it the nut broke. So, I had to take it back for a repair. So, now it'll have a good bone nut.

I've had much worse problems from more expensive guitars. Once I bought a Les Paul and when I was putting new strings on it I noticed a big crack running the length of the headstock.

I sold my '72 tele a few years ago and I've missed having one around ever since. So tell me more, are the frets finished off? Is the hardware and are the tuners decent?

Cool! I've had a Black Jay Turser JT-LT "Tele" for over two years now. I got a 3 ply Black Pickguard for it shorly after I bought the Axe. I't does the Tele thing very well. Right now, I have it tuned to Open E for Slide. The PUPS are just like Vintage Tele PUPS only not as noisy. I have owned 3 Jay Tursers so far. The JT-LT, JT-300 Str@ in Natural Honey on which I put a Tortise Pickguard on, and a Modified JT-300 in Transparent Black with a complete Kramer QuadRod Grey Pearloid Pickguard Assembly that has Joe Barden designed Dual Rails in the Neck and Middle Positions and a Kramer QuadRail at the Bridge. I have less than 400 Bux toltal in these three Guitars, including the Modified Black JT-300, and they are all excellent axes. You can see em all either here:

I just got it back tonight. I think the frets are a little bigger than the ones on the Fender Teles, I like that. They are finished very nicely, no sharp edges of the sides of the fretboard. The tuning keys look like schector, but there's no name on them. So far it stays in tune very well. Other than the cracked nut, I have no complaints.

And Buck, it could be made by Samick, but it says it was made in China. Isn't Samick in Korea?

I've done a few things with Bdgr and LtBob, but I don't think any of them have shown up in there yet. Also, Bdgr posted a thing that he and I did with our old band (a cover of Red House). I don't know I kind of like the white pickguard against the ivory finish, time will tell.

So Firebird, is this thing really light like a Danelectro or something?

I've been fooling around with this guitar this morning and I've noticed a few miner problems.

First, the plastic knob on the pickup switch is a little loose. So, I wrapped some tape around the metal part and put the knob over that.

Also, one of the screw holes in the wood where the jack plug mounts is striped out, so I broke off a little part of a toothpick in it.

Lastly, I took off the pickguard so I could get all the plastic wrap off the pickup and when I was putting it back on it was a very tight fit between the neck and bridge. I was able to get it back on with only a little bit of trouble.

These are all things that to me seem to go along with getting a new guitar. I always have to tweak them a little. If someone told this stuff to me about a new guitar, I'd call it nitpicking.

It is very light! I always choose Fender style guitars for their lightness. I think that it adds to the Fender sound.
