I Have Two Pre Amps Which One Should I Get Rid Of?

Really, just kidding here. But me thinks you might be making much more over this than is warranted at this level of equipment
because...
Turning the mic (either mic) 15 degrees or moving it an inch would swamp more than the difference in pres.
How about the consideration of which will be more usefull to the way you'd like to work, mixer or pre?

True at the same time you have to remember I'm not that advanced when it comes to knowing much about sound as in "monitoring" it. There is a big difference in what I hear and what an expert hears. That's why I started this thread and asked questions.

By the way chessrock your very annoying and I bet all of your 5000+ posts start with the same thing "I have a revolutionary new idea, why don't I spend money on a sex operation, etc". Get the hell out of here no one is asking you for your help in this thread. Especially not me. Negged. I hope you get banned.

Just keep the mixer and get your money back for the pre. In your situation, paying too much attention to such minute details will keep you from ever finishing anything. You'll get too obsessed over the stats and not the performance, song, or whatever ever else makes recording fun. People have made terrific recordings on much lower end equipment. :D

Penny, do you have to ask help for every minute decision you have to make in life?

Penny: "I don't know if I should eat scrambled eggs this morning, or if I should eat an omelette. Would someone who has experience eating both scrambled eggs and omelettes please chime in and tell me which one is better? By the way, I have a plate of both sitting in front of me."

Honestly ... this is a question you need to figure out for yourself. If you can't listen to or use one piece of equipment, and then another, compare the features and benefits of both, and decide for yourself which one works better for you in your world ... then I would highly advise against recording as a hobby. Or anything, for that matter.

Now I could actually somewhat understand or sympathize with your plight if you were in a situation where you weren't able to try out both, and you knew nothing about either one of them, etc. But you own both freakin' pieces of equipment. They're probably both sitting within 5 feet of you as you read this, and you STILL have to ask someone else?

And I don't think you fully realize the true magnitude of absurdity that this thread represents. Seeing as no one else on this board is in as uniquely qualified of a position as yourself to answer this question ... we should all be asking YOU. In fact, you're probably the only person, in my years of trolling around this site, who has ever posted anything even resembling a comparison between the two units in question (Thanks, by the way. It was somewhat informative/useful). I have a hard time understanding why you'd even trust anyone else's thoughts on this, as they would likely do more harm than good.

so the answer to every question is either figure it out yourself or do a search.....this BBS should just shut down allowing new posts.....everything has been covered or figure it out yourself......

maybe you should just shut the fuck up if you don't have any useful advice (and don't even think for a second what you've offered in this thread was useful)......

I, for one, think that Chessrock's rants make for some delicious reading (no sarcasm). That guys got a million of 'em.

I think chessrock is just having a bad day, cut him some slack, sometimes it gets difficult when you start to see the same questions asked again and again by different people. he's posted some gems on this site and is really a very knowledgeable guy.

Yea, he came across harshly but it happens sometimes to any one of us. I think maybe if everyone sits back and drinks some sherry we'll all be good (or smoke something?? ;-)

Cheers,
Don

I tried to drink Sherry but she's threated to file harrassment charges....

Chessrock already admit THIS comparison has probably never been made......so "again and again" doesnt apply......

penn has admitted from first post he wont be able to tell the difference......

the guy simply asked our opinion......

chessrock is very knowledgable, which makes his CONSTANT smart ass comments to newbies all the worse......

if my dumb questions when i first started posting here had been met with comments like his, i wouldnt still be here 8 years later.....

I dunno. Whiskey got me into the tirade I was in a couple nights ago.

My sincerest apologies to everyone, and rep will be distributed.

I may have to build up a little first.

I'm actually totally in agreement with chessrock and mathamagician.

No one else here is in a position to offer specific advice about this, unless they haven't spoken up yet. Anyone who can offer advice is probably basing off of one of the units (DMP3, most likely) instead of a comparison of the two -- or something they read somewhere online. Seeing as the original poster is the only person here who seems to have both units, and seeing as they tested them and came up with results, the choice should be based on that -- however fallible the test circumstances may have been.

I really did mean "no sarcasm" by the way...just to clarify...they are delicious...

A lot of people just seem to get hostile when you tell them the truth. It's like they would rather hear bad information said in a nice way ... than good information in a blunt way.

You may not like what I have to say a lot of the time, but if you can learn to look beyond social niceties and etiquet ... there is good info to be gleaned from a lot of my posts. And sometimes, the very best and most useful of my posts are the ones with the least amount of words ... or the ones where I challenge the person to trust their instincts, use their resources, and find the answer out for themselves. Ultimately, they will be more relevent people in our society for it.

In that sense, often my shortest replies to a subject contain far more wisdom than the 20-paragraphers you get from guys like Southside Glen, for example, who merely aid and abet someone in his/her quest to find quick and easy answers to a complex subject. "I wouldn't want you to have to strain, think for yourself or to trust your own instincts, so here's the answer." In college, these were the guys who would rather go to the bar four nights a week, and then the day before the test, they call the smart geeky guy in class and pretend to be his friend so he'll help them study.

If I get the sense that someone has put some time and effort in to it, then I'll lend as much help as I can ... and for that, I generally get very very little thanks around this board, so what's the use, really?

Ain't that the truth. :D
