Okay I'm an absolute newbie to this.

I have a very simple question.

I have a Sound Blaster Live! value soundcard and I own Cool Edit Pro. I have discovered how to connect my electric guitar into the back of the computer (running from an amp) into this soundcard and have successfully recorded audio and done some mastering/manipulation of it in Cool Edit Pro.

Myself and a friend of mine wish to record the two of us playing the guitar together. We want to know how we can do this without having to buy like a 4-track or DAT. So is there like some special plug or someway you can plug two guitars from two separate amps into the Sound Blaster Live! soundcard???

If this is possible, is there a way to record each guitar onto its own digital track in Cool Edit Pro??? If so, how do you do this?

Oh and please don't suggest recording one track (one guitar), playing it back and playing along with it with the second guitar and recording that, because we have tried this and it's too difficult. All our "moments" happen when we play together hehe.

As I said I am an absolute newb at all this recording stuff, any help or correction of my problem would be appreciated.

Yes, you just need a Y cable with 2 female 1/4" ends and one male stereo 1/8" end. (or a combination of a Y cable and the proper adapters)

The idea is that a stereo channel is nothing more than two mono channels, so every soundcard has at least two channels to work with.

Don't know CEP well, but I'm sure it can do this. If not, just record in stereo and split the stereo track.

Woohoo! sweet that's a start
Yeah I've been using a single one of these cables.
Didn't realise they were called "Y cables".
