Yo' chess, that's a d@mn good question!!!
Chess, I don't mean to belittle ANY-1 who employs Behringer gear in thier present set-up nor do I have this INTENSE HATRED for Behringer altogether. When I 1st started buying Beh gear(and
brutha' believe me when I say I owned many of thier products), I was so impressed by the looks and thier ridiculously low prices!!!
Like many here, I was on an extreme budget and figured that this would be a great way to start recording my own crappy-@ss jammies rather than book time @ a comm'l studio. I was so naive and new-bile back than, that I even bought a 3630 to add to my impressive array of handsome,black and silver Beh gear. I sung hi-praises for Beh's unit's and vigorously defended my choice of gear
even pissing off Downside Studio who berated Beh and moved up to higher quality units. I didn't care! I got all this gear (3 comps, DSP, Hi-Lo filter/Gate,mixer,Sub-bass processor, stereo enhancer,patchbay, preamp) for under $500!!!! YEAH baby, who's 'da man!!!!
Then I got ragged @ PRO-REC(where I 1st met pglewis) where resident-guru, Bill Parks, broke it down in layman terms, the limitations one places on himself using Behringer gear. Got dissed @ r.a.p. by the senior members who told me that $500 I spent should have been saved to purchase better perf'ming gear and QUALITY ALWAYS BEATS QUANTITY. Laughed at by some associates who were affiliated/employed at var. local studios in the city when I informed them of my gear list .Here, with Cuzzin' Brucie Blue Bear,John Sayers, sonusman and a few others who used thier knowledge, sound-clips and stat comparisons to bolster their opinions on Beh(though sonusman swears by the Composer). Besides the fact that my new Beh mixer blew-out (ain;t re-hashin' that up again), the last straw was when my younger bro who's into to "Intelligent Rap" (not that thug shit), took 1 look at my gear and cancelled his decision of having me record his demo!
If I had some-1 to pull my collar and tell me 'tis better to save that $80 you spent on,say, the Beh efx processor and purchase
a higher quality unit with valid points backing that argument, I know I would have listened. Beh's products have absolutely no re-sale value as I gave my cousin my Edison and Ultrabass, sold my MultiCom to a friend for $35, and traded my DSP PRO1000 with a female co-worker on my job who's a DJ, for a personal mini-disc walkman/recorder(I got the better of the deal!!!

)
I'm no expert nor do I consider myself an engineering genius.
My gear is basically midlevel with 2 or 3 outboards joints that are
"upper midlevel", with the only Beh gear I have now is the Composer & AutoCom, the ECM8000(recommended by H Gerst) and
the UltraPatch.
If you are serious about recording yet budget is limited,look and compare other products in Beh's price range and if you unfortunatly purchase a Beh product, check the retailers return policy as you might get screwed.
Please, don;t make the same mistakes I made!!!
Learn from the many "qualified" masters here!
Thx to chessrock, his advice on the DMP3 made my decision to purchase the unit a valuable tip!
