What kind of vocals?
For $2000, you could get a nice pre/channel strip and 2 nice mics.
Or a nicer pre/channel strip and 1 nicer mic.
The options are rather exciting.
for male vocals. I want something that i can record only once. If you hear lil waynes (rap) songs like fly in or his carter 2 cd, he only record his vocals once, no doubles no panning. and his sound is clear and crisp. what do you suggest me getting?
You wan't something that sounds like that? Man! You have more tolerant ears than me. The vocals were overbearingly bright on that album. They did cut through the mix like a sword tho!! I know what, i wish i had your budget for a vocal chain!! Must be nice!

My vote is for a AKG 414 (take your pick XLS is flat, while XLII has a presence peak) and a Great River ME1-NV (though you might want to check out the DRS-1).
The 414 is just simply a studio standard and cannot be had with out. Vocals, Guitar (acoustic or electric), Piano, Drums, etc... It will take anything you throw at it.
The Great River isn't a one trick poney either from clean to dirty. The DRS-1 seems to be a little dirtier and has more low end to it. Both great and both around $1000.
Sorry if i came off as being arrogant or something. That is certainly not the case. He was referring to a song off rapper Lil Wayne's album. The vocals on the song he is talking about are extremely bright, in my opinion(which doesn't mean alot ). I'm using budget stuff for vocals right now but if i was graced with a 1500 budget for a vocal chain i'd be extremely happy!! I know that must be a good feeling. All those options.
I've had great results from using the TC-Helicon VoiceWorks. It runs an average of about $600 these days. It is a "all in one" box to be sure. It has a superb preamp (way better than I would have imagined for that kind of money), pitch correction which is not only very accurate but offers considerably more adjustability then the competition. The harmony generation is remarkable, although I must confess I haven't got much time to explore it as yet. The on board compression is fully adjustable as is the considerable eq. All in all it's a super value and without sonic compromise. Surely worth looking into. Heck for me the "doubling" is worth it alone. Renders a nice thick vocal that sits wonderfully in the mix.
