I kind of agree with your view on equipment Pedullist .

Ethan Winer said something very similar a while back in another tread about the difference between different soundcards. Basically he said that learning the tools and techniques has a much greater impact on the result than the actual tools themself.

Something to keep in mind the next time someone picks on your stuff...

And I think it was homerec'er Sonusman who said, "Buy good, buy once. Buy cheap, buy twice."

Funny thing is they are both right in their own way.

A few years back my daughter was thinking of taking up the guitar. There is no way I would go out and buy her a Martin or Taylor. I got her a relative cheap but decent Yamaha, figuring once she actually stuck with it and learned to play, we would maybe think about something better.

This reinforces what Ethan was saying. She didn't need a Martin to learn to play the damn thing. And IF she learned to play the thing, we could always upgrade.

End of story is she managed to learn to strum a few chords and still has the Yammie. :)

Spot on, dachay2tnr. Especially with kids...better try it out first. :) But as soon as the child is developing his or her skills, and it seems to work out well....don't wait too long with replacing it. Otherwise it might trigger demotivation. My bassplaying improved about 150% after I replaced my japanese Fender for a Pedulla (later on I even bought a second one):D

In the case of really cheap equipment, Sonusman is right. A friend of mine always tends to buy super cheap equipment, and it always breaks down, or it never really works the way it should. It's very annoying and demotivating. He actually spends more money on equipment than I do, because he has to buy the same thing twice.

Fortunately there's something in the middle too: the semi pro stuff. I can get pretty happy with semi pro stuff without ever feeling the need to upgrade.

dachay2tnr, just to be sure...I didn't offend you or hurt your feelings in any way with this thread, I hope? I was just venting some frustation.... :)

Not before he ditches the Behringer...

Here we go again... :D

Shall we talk about your violin and guitars then? And I can't recall hearing a real bass on any of your tunes..a real bass........like....a.....a Pedulla! :D

Thanks for loving me, James! I love you too! :) And Moskus...

Grouphug!

No offense at all. Good dialogue. (And if I recall I might have started it by making fun of your new behringer).

I would join the group hug, but I'm not so sure about James and moskus. They're so skinny and handsome. :D

(And for the record, my background is not any more professional than yours. Although, since I use my basement to record, I do have a fairly large room to record in. Therefore I can honestly say, mine is bigger than yours. :) )

I remember listening to a tune of yours once, it sounded very professional. I never responded, because you asked me not to (it was and old thread or something like that). But that's why I thought your setup and ears were more professional than mine. I still think they probably are.... ;)

OK, your right knee is fat, but as for the rest of your body....you need some dutch food buddy!

Yes, I have the "One Fat Knee"-syndrome, aka OFK. I've been to hundreds of hospitals, but they don't know what to do...

:D

I told you I was skinny! ;)
