Chris...the newer mix is 1000 times better...it sounds so much better than it did earlier tonight!

Only things now...(yeah...I'm still not gonna take it easy on you...) Lead vocal...brighter...give it some high end...just a bit, and just the lead.

There are still a few hi hat hits that are way too loud, and personally, I would try a very, very small bit of reverb on the snare drum (but that's just my opinion.) The cymbals seem like they could be a bit brighter...take out some low end, and then bring up the overall level of them. Again, you asked for it, so don't take offense!

Man, this mix sounds a thousand times better than what you posted earlier. I'm way impressed. I hope that all of our comments helped you.

It was a pretty good mix to begin with, but it has definitely improved. It's a very touching song. I've always appreciated your tunes, and once again I haven't been let down!

So, whenever you need someone else to mix your tunes, just email me, okay? HAHA!

Great job man,

Darth

Quick fix for acoustics

Hi there Chris,

I've only just joined this forum and I don't know much about your setup etc but on listening to the mix I agree with the panning on the acoustics being too wide. You can also try "warming up" the sound of the acoustics by doubling an electric (possibly chorused) whatever you played on the acoustic. In that way you'll still retain the high end of the acoustic but you'll round off the sound a bit.

Cheers,

PJH

Hey Chad, clean out your damn pm box!:DI cant get through man.;)

Ok I'm back ... Chris ye I ment guitars down and vocals up ... they just sound to upfront at least in the headphones and I can't even concentrate on the words because they compete for attention with vocal ... :) ... don't know how you EQed your gtrs but usualy I got the best sound I liked by "smile" curve ... just sweep the EQ and see where vocal is and a cut little from gtr in that spot and may be roll some low end after 200 ... but you probably already new that ...

did you do the drums after you did other staff or no... ? it's not bad actualy... but not tight enough IMHO ... and inconsistencies in guitar tracks kind of emffesise it too... it didn't feel like the drum machine to much because the pattern is not very dense but still see you can't "swing" with the drum machine you have to program it in ... this song is quiet "swingy" to me ... the snare is just a tiiiiiiny bit ahead of your guitars ... well ... maybe I'm just imaginning this ... I dunno ... something bothers me about the rythm and I think thats it ....

I'm not sure wether it needs speeding up or not... I got a guitar here at work (he...he... :D ) so I'll try it and see how I feel about a little faster temo ... but its subjective anyway... defenetly not 2x

phew... this is getting long ...

I don't think you should worry about posting too much ... you are reviewing alot of songs also so I'm sure people are happy to return a favor and lend a ear ... though they know you'll probably splitt after you done ... :D :D

cheers

Man, getting a lot of Frey/Eagles vibe here. We (students and I) are listening while doing World Civ work. Interesting juxtaposition, your song vs. questions of how Spain controlled its American empire.
Anyway, they vote you many thumbs up.
And they despise the conquistadors.

i like the feel and i think it sounds nice and full.

i like the brush sound on the snare.

to me your act sounds saleable.

ever been to nashville?

:)

HEY!!!!
Dont bring back bad memories!!!
The King is displeased no longer!!!

Nice job, chrisharris... 100% improvement. The guitars are still a little wider than I'd prefer, but hey... that's what makes YOU unique. ;) Panning the background vocals made a world of difference. That angelic "ahhhh" might be better served with a plate reverb, though.. but again, that's just me... the lead guitar lines were cool. But maybe a little higher end on them so that they stick out more. Anywho, it sounded awesome compared to the first.

END**END**END**END**END

Okay folks, just a quick thanks for the help. Certainly not my favorite tune, but I think with the final EQ and FX tweaks suggested by ya'll, it's good enough to take up slot #7 or #8 on a CD that will not break 100 in sales!!!

Chad, Jr#97, Darth (still working on those suggestions) / Kramer, thanks for listening twice...

PJH - Of course I know you're right...but I'm so sick of this tune, the thought of putting another track down just makes me wanna' puke...maybe I'll give it a rest and come back to it. Thanks.

Mark - You're going to lose your job...but that was maybe the coolest thing you could have said. Thank you very much.

Fed - again, having you here is a very good thing...keep it going...AND POST ANOTHER SONG!!! (2 ain't enuff).

Jeap - Thanks man. I lived in Music City for one summer when I was in Law School and loved it...but Nashville's just too far away from home and family for my wife...(probably a good thing...no sense torturing yourself with hope).

I DELETED THE SONG
- cuz the thread title gave me all the feedback I could handle. If anybody actually wants to hear it, I'll send ya' a free CD with all the hillbilly tracks in a couple of weeks. Just get me your address.

(and no Fed, I ain't leavin...I'm just starting).

:D
:D

ha ha ha i lived in nashville for a year and it scared the heck out of me!

the driving is crazy there. all my friends there had been in horrible accidents and they would all get blind drunk and drive from bar to bar at high speeds.

i quit drinking in nashville and i havent touched a drop of alcohol since. except for nyquil and that doesnt count.

:)
