I finished my 2nd tune and brought it up to Guitar Center with me last night to see if the salesman that has been talking to me wanted to hear it.
He put the CD in and played it through their biggest sound reinforcement system there. I mean the wall of speakers and amp racks was about 20 feet high, and high quality also. I was expecting the worst for some reason.
Guys, I'm brutal on myself and my own worst critic, but it sounded great! I was shocked myself when I heard the extra depth in everything that my little home system lacks.
The vocals (and 3 part harmonies) were clear and right up front. The kick, bass tone, snare and everything for that matter was well balanced and sounded very professional. I was flattered when they were asking me some questions and techniques being that I am such a rookie.
Who ever posted that EQ primer a month or so ago, thank you also. I printed it out a month before I recorded my first track and saved it. I first EQ'd everything by ear without consulting the sheet and made it the best I possibly could. Then I did a second scene following the primer exactly. It had half the amount of boosts and cuts I did yet sounded 4 times better. My buddy at the store even complimented the EQ. Of course I just puffed my chest out and took all the credit. (Just kidding)
Don't let your heads swell to big but I always give credit where credit is do. Thanks all!
The heart of my system consists of;
Roland VS840EX
Shure KSM27
DMP3
FMR RNC
All good cables
I guess it's not how big your system is, it' what you can do with it!
