Specific question: What presets or tweaking did you use in C.E.P. especially on the vocals ...
Hey flat-9, I appreciate the listen. I've heard your chops, so it's apparent to me that you're lieing your ass off about my "musicianship," lol, but I appreciate it.
Your question: CEP is an amazing piece of software, in my opinion. As for the vocals...I do 2 things to them in CEP...I use one of 2 actual presets for the compression. The 2 vocal presets.
"Vocal Comp" (5.5 : 1)
"Vocal Comp" (8:1)
The second one's obviously a little softer, so I tend to use it on slower tunes. Both of these amplify the crap out of sibilance, so I need to work on tweaking the bands to NOT amplify between a certain bandwidth... The bottom line is that I'm not a snob about presets...I think these work well for me and others I've recorded, so I start with those.
Reverb - I've used the "Concert Hall Light" a TON, but just cut the "wet" in half. Like if it's normally 30%, then cut it down to 15% for the lead, and leave it at 30% for the backups. I'm getting more into the plate reverbs for vocals now - There's one in the FULL REVERB section called "Medium Vocal Plate." That's what I used on here. By the way, with the exception of the presets that are LABELED "vocal" something, the concert hall light and the medium vocal plate are the only ones I've found useful.
The rest of the "magic" of my vocal, lol...I can attribute to screaming ultra-high backup vocals on stage with a cigarette in my mouth for a decade or so. I recommend Phillip-Morris products, b/c they put extra shit in their product that is intended to more effectively addict the consumer that has the added benefit of scraping the timbre out of your vocal cords. I'll be dead in a little while, however, so it's good to type long posts like this to pass on what I've learned, lol.
Going to check out your latest now.
