And I actually find it useful because it gives nice coloration to electric guitars and deep male vocals when recording. Its a good compressor in some regards, why so much gripes? I know it lacks clarity, but for my purposes, the lack of clarity actually benefits my sound.

Mr. Sol,

I don't have one so I can't comment on the actual unit. All I can say is this. If it works for you and sounds good then all the criticism in the world isn't worth jack. I've heard your tunes and know you are talented. I have no doubt that this compressor adds to your sound if you say so. It's really easy to jump on the bandwagon and gripe about or gush on certain equipment. What we learn time and time again though that its not the gear its how you use it. Opinions on gear are just that opinions.

You mean you PAID $50 dollars???? They didn't PAY YOU to take it?!?!?!?

:D :D

Use the noise gate section....It can be usefull.

I wont go on about the compressor.........

what is so terrible about this compressor anyway? just wondering....

Under normal comp'ing procedures, the 3630 introduces extremely audible sound artifacts which is not to be confused with
"sound coloration"! Inherent "wooshes" & "ooomphs" are present during comp operation regardless of Thresh or Ratio settings. It's seemingly slow response time to nailing peaks even
when a fast attack is used also contributes to it's utter worthlessness.
However, I must add that the 3630 can be used as a wierd, bass
efx unit (of which Alesis did not intend the product to be used for)
when applying copious amounts of comp'ing which will produce
an un-intended "swoosh" efkt similar to the early Electro-Harmonix bass synths or as a "hiss" controller inherently produced by drum machines by incorporating the Gates!
Other than that, the unit sucks!!

Funny, I was thinking just the opposite.

The compressor works for my drum module (kinda cuts down on the hissy high end) but the gates are a nightmare! They crackle on the way in and out. You can hear the fade out going bzzzrtt everytime...it bites.
