I have been battling noise in my home studio set- up for a while, and every so often I do extensive trouble-shooting sessions. at first I thought that I had power issues then I thought my midi controller (baby HUI) was putting a wierd transmission like signal in my system, not the case. I am sure now that it has everything to do with my analog set up and digital set up intergrating. My set up is................
Mac G4, Digi 001, M Audio BX 8 (powerd monitors), old TASCAM M-312 mixer, TASCAM M38 reel-reel. I have pin pointed that whenever I patch the output of my digi 001 to my mixer I get a strange annoying transmition like sound in my mains ( only when the master faders are up) I dont know if this is common or if it has to do with my older mixer does not like digital signal or an issue with powerd speakers or what.
I am completly frustrarted, and just looking for any help,
THanks

it may be a power source to close to your system, or cables running to close to a power source, flo lighting causes interference at times, a good ground fault helps, cables, cable routing, there's quite a few factors it could be, only you know :)

try moveing or shutting down equip till the noise get's lower or stops...

and "everything" must have a ground, "everything"...

just a thought...

peace...

When in doubt, look for ground loops

Ground loops can cause a myriad of problems, including inducing noise in a system. Remember if the signal path has more than one method of reaching ground, you have a loop.

Are your PC and mixer on the same power source? If somehow they are on different sides (phases) of your power, it might also cause problems.

Most incoming power is 240V with two sides. If PC is on one phase/side and mixer on other, strange things can occur. We had this at Church some time back, and when the power source was changed, the problem went away.

And it wouldn't hurt to get one of those cheap $7 plug ground checkers at Home Depot/etc. to check out your house.

When I went to sell my previous house last year, the inspector found that a number of my outlets WERE NOT actually grounded.

Lucky I did have a fire!!

thanks for the input. I am thinking the answer is in here somewhere, if there are ground or power issues in the house is there an easy solution.
