What is a pre-amp? I have seen one but what does it do exactly?
also
I am looking at recording mixers. This mixer is a 24 track 12 bus system I know what a track is but what is a bus?

Thanx,
Zanza

A standard amplifier has two stages, the preamp stage and the poweramp stage. The preamplifier is designed to step up the signal to a level where the poweramp stage can utilize it. So, all a preamp is is an amp for very small signals. The preamp has all the controls for manipulating the signal such as volume, tone etc. The power amp is strictly a power amp designed to amplify the signals
sent to it by the preamp(s). Now, a bus is a signal route designed to take a number of singals and to route them where you want them. The signals ride the bus to their destination just as a human would.
