Hi all,

I've got a Bill M modded Blues Jr. that I love. It has the original Fender (Eminence) speaker in it. It does sound decent. However I've been tossing and turning about putting in another speaker. I've been thinking Weber. He's got a great selection. Has anyone done a speaker change on a Blues Jr.? What did you think after you invested the time and money? Was it over the top worth it or just a little better or maybe the money could have been better spent on something else?

thanks for the opinions,

Your best bet is to leave the Eminence in there, and do this instead.....

Contact John Griffiths at Griffiths Sound Works in Des Moines. Tell him you would like an unfinished cab. I got an unfinished 1x12 (birch plywood, no tolex, but has the hole cut and the speaker bolts mounted, great craftsmanship here) for $85 + shipping. For another $35 or so you can get a 1x12 cab that is 18x24x10. Or 2x12, 2x10, etc......as you go up in price. He will finish it, or not, to whatever degree you like, and charge accordingly. He does really nice work.

Then get an Eminence Tonker, or Swamp Thang, or a Weber Michigan, etc.... and have yourself an extension cab. The jack on the Fender BJ is 4 ohm I believe, so it will drive an ext cab quite nicely. Especially if you get two 8 ohm 12 inch speakers and put them together in a 4 ohm cab.

I personally think the BJ is one of the few small combo amps that sounds pretty darn good just the way it is.

18 watt.com has a mod for the blues jr., and a plexi face plate.
