Ive tested some new ways of mixing on this song.

What do you think?

Thanks for the time.

Oh by the way youll need to crank your system a bit, its a quiet mix, with no mastering stuff on the bus.

Sounds quite nice. Nice gtrs again :).

I don't know what kind of sound you are after, but think "dirty" would be the word. I like it :p.

First listening experience... The snare sucks. First of all I think it is too loud and a bit too "roomy". And I can also hear this tune in my mind with a different snare sound and it sounds 100x better :D

Other than that I can't really say anything else. I like the dirty sound you have here. Nice :).

Dude that snare annoys me too!
Oh well though, the drummer is thrilled so im happy.
Thanks for the review bro.

Yeah, I don't like that "boing" sound in it. IMO it really doesn't suit in this song, not at all :D

I would so gladly replace this snare with some more dirty sounding one with maby even some veeery slight distortion/vintage compressor (eg Vintage Warmer with a bit more "aggressive" settings.. oh boy).

But oh well, drummer happy Chris happy :)

Other than what Kainz said about the snare, I don't hear anything that sticks out to me. I like the guitar tone. Very good.

I can only agree with what the others said. The wierdest thing to me though, is that the sound of the snare changes after about a minute. I mean, in the beginning it was "okay" :)
Really enjoyed the song though, you seem to be really into progressive types of music.

Hi

Some songs on the first album of "Our Lady Peace" called "Birdman" has that kind of snare sound (I think it's the second or the third song). If you have to live with that sound, maybe you can see if you can change the tone of the guitars to accomodate it.

Hint: I think Jeff Taggert was hitting is snare much harder though. You might want to pass that comment to the drummer.

Finster- the main thing that has been mentioned and jumps out at me is the snare. I don't find the sound repulsive but it seems a little too loud. Especially during the parts where he has the strainer off. Tool does this type of thing all the time and it sounds great, im not so sure its as appropriate in this context though.
The kick sound kind of tiny but that may have be because the snare is a little out front. Guitar tones sound pretty good. Didn't really care for the song or the band but there were some cool parts. Good work overall.

hey i'm no drum expert ...but that snare is confusing me ....it sounds like a tom....i know its possible to to tighten the snare up to create a sound similar to a tom..

but every time the drummer hits its full on in your face...i agree it would sound better if it was less tightened.... singer reminds me of maynard from tool

and the drummer sounds a bit like the drummer in tool...or maybe its just that snare confusing me

i like the song :D

good stuff, but the drums need a better mix. Good vocalist. Sounds like they could spend a little more time developing the transitional areas - the retarding at :58 dosen't do it for me.

Sounds like the drummer just can't stand Danny Carey. ;)

Guitars are real real nice man, but the drums kill an otherwise good mix. The snare sticks out soooo much it almost takes over the mix. Its too roomy also i think. There is no kick drum. But on a plus side the cymbals and hihats are good!
Maybe play about with the vocals a bit more. Maybe different compression settings or EQ not too sure. The bass sounds real nice, maybe bring it up a tiny tad, but you can do that at mastering anyway i suppose.

Just had another listen. Think it could do with a bit of automation on the snare and maybe the bass also in the first third of the song.
Good stuff Finster.

nice guitar sound, what kind of amps did you play trough?
and good vocalist, indeed the drums lack something,
cut out some annoying frequencies...what about fiddling with the 300-500 hz range, see what that does, i do like snares without strings, i love the Tool sound, but this kinda sounds like MY snare, and thats something you wanna fix, but the overal recording of the drums isn't that bad, you have a nice stereo spread compared with what i recorded lately, what kind of overhead miking did you use?

maybe the bass is a bit silent...but maybe thats just me, i like to hear every instrument in the mix, don't really like "hidden" things

nice work in overal, keep on recording :)

I had a quick shot at mastering the track just to see if the snare fitted better and you know it really did fit better from the limiting and EQ. I also took a small cut at around 1K to smooth the guitars tone. Guitars sound amazing by the way. Hope you aint pissed i had a shot at mastering one of your mixes. :o

Thanks for the reviews guys! :D
Ill definetly talk witht the drummer abou the option of soundreplacer.
I hope he's cool about it.

Thanks again for the reviews.
