Sounds good overall, Gerry. Drums seem a bit too far back, and the vocals seem a bit too far forward. I'd just lower the vocal gain by 1 - 1.5 db and up the drums about 1 - 1.5 db and see what that does.

I love the feel of this song, Gerry. Great tune.

Gerry's Nominative determinism song!!
1st track I came across on HR I think and STILL one of my all time favs through many incarnations.
The latest:
His retains all I love about the song - the melody, your vocal syle, Mike's bass line, tastey near country blues licks and now has PI drums, subtle, harmonies and some even subtler keys.
Nice Gerry - and stylistically quite a long way from where you are these days so it's a nice trip back to such a lovely track.

Thanks Ray - I had my rockier tracks mastered but now working on my ballads and lighter stuff. It's fun to open these up and see what can be done to improve them - always learning....

I think it sounds fantastic, really great. I personly think its a real challenge to use a typical/common subject and put a good song and performance around it without it sounding sappy/cheezy. I see this having appeal to a wide audience.

I agree the verse vox could come down just a hair.

Overall great job.

Pete

Thanks PDP - I've actually had this played as the "first dance" at a friends wedding. That's as "famous" as I'll ever get . Big compliment though :D:D:D:D

Sounds real good ido - i got nothing to add but I did give it a listen! :)

Thanks arcadeko - a listen is a big compliment to me too - considering the many other tunes on the forum you can pick from :D

kick feels a bit too overdriven for this tune. Snare could use more sparkle.

Nice tune. Great arrangement. Good use of stereo field. It fills the room up beautifully.

Gerry, there's a bass note that sticks out a little at 2.10 that you may like to tame a little with some automated vol. The diff between the previous version with the gtr licks and this is quite significant - this is MUCH calmer and cuddlier - the previous had a little more edge. Did someone ask you to withdraw the licks or did you decide to go back closer to the original?
Also a tom run at 3.30 stands out a bit from the rest of the track.
A LOVELY song.

Thanks Ray - yeah I found the guitar soloing didn't fit the original arrangement. I liked it but if you remember the Xmas song, I think that might be how I'd like to go in this one. I'll check out those items that you mentioned...

I think the snare is flabby and lacking a clean crack. It sounds like too much bottom mic (if used) or not enough top mic to balance with the overheads. The "space" of the kit doesn't match the rest of the instrumentation. I'm hearing really dry-ish vocals right out front, guitars somewhere behind them, and the drums way in the back. Space is good, but this seems like a little too much between the parts to me. The bass is mostly MIA.

This is a nice tune ido. Until reading this thread, I'd always mentally read your name as 'eye doe' - makes sense now!

It sounds lush and full - the only issue I had is that I can hear some distortion on the vocals that sounds a little like clipping. I'm guessing from some gain you've added in the processing chain (?) rather than because the mix is too hot, but it was the one distraction I picked up on. Good stuff

Good tune. In my humble opinion, The sound of the drums and the vocal have a "small room" sound to them. I'd either want them totally dry or a little bigger room sound. Either way I think would be better. I'd also want just a little more bass but that's just a personal preference. The guitar work is excellent. Performance in general is first rate.

Sounds good. Super mellow vs. what I've been getting used to hearing from you of late. I actually don't remember this one...how far back does it date back originally?

I agree about there being some odd spatial relationships between things. Specifically the vocals (upfront and kind of dry) and everything else seeming much farther back.
