I can't stand the natural sound of my guitar

It's only acceptable to me if I heavily treat it will various stages of electronics, transducers, and acoustic effects. But it has to be heavily treated in exactly the right way, otherwise it sounds artificial.

Can anybody help me with this problem  :(

You need a disco ball. That'll fix everything, I promise.

What is 'natural' about a hunk of wood with some steel wires stretched over it?

Use. Whatever. Works. For. You....

Stop trying to get that "Last Train Home" Metheny sound. It's been done.

Thank me later.:laughings:

Assuming you're serious and not yanking our chains...

Did you ever like the way your guitar sounded? When is the last time you changed strings? A fresh set always injects some new life into my guitar. How about your intonation and action height? Pickup distance to the strings? Tweaking these things will affect the sound and feel of your guitar. Subtly, but maybe a subtle change is all you need. Maybe the tone you like is in there somewhere but its fallen out of adjustment? Maybe your tastes have changed since you bought it.

Short of replacing the guitar, new pickups are always an option. But yesh, a new guitar is pretty much guaranteed to change the way your guitar sounds :)

How about your amp? You like the way it sounds without having to heap on effects? Do other guitars sound as unimpressive through this same amp with no effects? Did you ever like the way it sounded? Do you dislike the way it sounds in the room, or is it only on recordings that you're unsatisfied?

I was in a similar position with my jazz guitars (playing through my Blues Jr.)...one day, I disconnected my pedalboard, and my rack effects, and simply played through the input of my Blues Jr. and the guitar sounded wonderful. I should also note that I use the Blues Jr. for Blues and rock stuff. I now also use a Roland JC 77 clean for my jazz stuff and any guitar I play through sounds fantastic. My point here is it's not always the guitar...the amp plays a major role too...good luck working your issues out!

?

I'm sorry Tadpui, but that's a bad assumption. MSH is trolling, the giveaway was this little nugget...

various stages of electronics, transducers, and acoustic effects.
If he doesn't know how to make a guitar sound good, then none of us do.

However, your post has good suggestions and might help others with similar problems.

peace,

I love the sound of electric guitar just the way it is. . . I don’t want an electric guitar to pretend that it’s a bucket, or president, or in love with another guitar. I just want it to be a guitar . . .

Stop using those Naiant mics.:p:D

It might not surprise you to know that I don't build a microphone to have a particular sound, I build a microphone and then it has a sound. And then because I must sell them, I must think of the type of sound I wish a microphone to hear. But I don't actually try the microphones on anything. I might sing a song into the microphone, which might be "Tom's Diner", or it might be something else. And then I think what someone might want to use that microphone to record. And if I think that no one might want to use that particular microphone, then I don't offer it for sale, because of course I need to eat.

Often I get asked for a sound sample, but the truth is I don't have any. Even back when people used to send me their recordings, I didn't think it sounded like my microphone, I thought it sounded like their recording.
