Here's a new one. I went high octane, low brow, stripped down, bare bones, no frills, no solo, no drum fills, no point........just rock.

I can't sleep and it's keeping me awake at night (4x)

I'm scared there's a monster under my bed
I'm scared that I'm gonna wake up dead
I'm scared that I can't pay all my bills
I'm scared that I took too many sleeping pills
I'm scared of getting killed by the boogeyman
I'm scared of laying under a ceiling fan
I'm scared that I'm gonna wet the bed
I'm scared that I'm gonna wake up dead

I can't sleep and it's keeping me awake at night (4x)

I'm scared of government conspiracies
I'm scared of aliens probing me
I'm scared of falling out of bed
I'm scared that I'm gonna hit my head
I'm scared of bugs crawling in my ears
I'm scared that I drank too many beers
I'm scared of having a bad dream
I'm scared that no one will hear me scream

No solo - what's that spooky sounding thing between verses? haha... I think the vocals are too low....just a bit as the guitars are kinda fighting them. They're discernable but I'd prefer a little more... let's see how others feel. The lyrics flow nicely, drums and guitars are great as always. That bass tone at the intro really cuts through! Nice and short and sweet. I think you've covered 90% of the nighttime fears...haha..

Thanks for jumping in so quick. Yeah I'm torn on the vocal level. They definitely sit down in the mix, but I can't decide if I wanna keep it that way. I've been going back and forth on it.

That spooky thing is my grandpa's old electric piano triple tracked on different settings. It has a cool fake theramin sound.

Cool - that keyboard sound worked out well... I'll have to google theramin now....

Lol. i think that's what it's called. That spooky warbly wooooooooooooo sound, like on the Beach Boys "Good Vibrations".

Cool stuff, pretty different from your other stuff in some ways, everything sounds a bit more bombastic.
I really like those "feeding" guitars, specially that they are allowed to go on.

The theramin (patch) sounds more like a "spooky theater organ" patch to me, the coolest thing and most defining about a theramin IMO is that the notes change without the sound of any note clicks or fret changes.
They just glide all over the place, kinda like a saw.

good stuff though.

Nak - this is a song for you - it's 4 am in Norway according to Google....Can't sleep? lol...
And that Beach Boys sound - you've got it ! Fits well in a spooky thing...

Yeah, I can see where the vocals can be too much if you bring them up just a bit, but not enough where they are now. Leads me to believe they are competing with guitars, so maybe bring those down a tad and see if it works. Also, I don't hear as much thump in the kick as I do in your Walmart song.

I know you don't put much into lyrics, but I enjoy the irony of the hook line; can't sleep and it's keeping you awake at night.

Greg down plays his lyrics - but they usually do have a cool twist to them. :D

Thanks. Yeah this is my "new sound" for this batch of songs. I don't know if you've heard my newest stuff lately.

Thanks Chili. It might be in the guitars. I'll give them another look. I like the drive of them though, so I don't know. There's also three bass tracks. The song originally had no guitars at all. It was all distorted basses. This thing was like a trainwreck of frequncies bashing into eachother. It sounds better with guitars. :D

Yeah, that's just great!!!! Vox on top a little more. U could always try cutting the guitars around 2 to 3 k to create a little spot for the vox.

I really like the monsterish dark sounding instrumental parts. Same comment on the vox, bring em up or make some room with the guitars. Enjoyed it. Overall nice job.

LEAVE the vox alone! JUST POIFUCT!
I like the keyboard -(Greg! Keyboard?) It has a thermin like tone with out the gliss effect. You can buy a theramin kit online for about $70.
BBoys, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - used in al sorts of way.
The song - COOL! Is that the new snare mic?
Hit hard, the hit against - really fast. That works for me.
Can you post the guitar less verion jsut for interest's sake?
I really dug this & the bass tone , as usual, is killer.

Yup. Great tom work on this one, man. It'd literally take me a full-on week to be able to play this at all - and it wouldn't be even as close as solid. You've got a nitch, man - and I love it.

The mix is great. I can see why people say the vocals are too low, but ... for this song, I don't think there's all that much lyrical substance, and I could easily understand what was being said anyway. The instruments are fun to listen to, too... So... I say keep it as is. It's good to hear another one of yours. It's been awhile.

High Octane as you say, unrelenting, driving - you're not taking any prisoners with this tune. The voice is not too low - IMO. The snarl factor is entirely appropriate given the genre. Good one

Thanks Ray. I deleted most of the bass tracks that were gonna be used in place of guitars. There was like 7 of them. I kept three. They're simple though. I'll re-track em and post it up.

Thanks a lot PI. This shit is easy. You could probably drum it in your sleep.

Thanks dude.

I'm gonna listen on different setups today and see how the vocals fit. I could go either way on them right now.

Very good Greg,

I kinda want some stretched vocal lines to contrast the spat out lines... even if it's just a "whoa-ay-whoa".

:D

Its defenitly an Improvement, not that your other stuff was bad, it just sounds wimpy compared to this (no dissing intended)
From get go its a bombardment of sound, but still with clarity, well done ;)
Is this with your new overhead config, or are you back doing the "glynn-recorderman"

Oh and I usually check out your tunes, but I raely have any other things to add than a pat on the back :D

Thanks dude. Sorry, but the vocals are done. :D

Right, yeah I've been shooting for bigger sounds overall lately. Bigger everything. My other stuff was tight and crisp and clean. I wanted it that way. It was the style I was aiming for. Those songs will all be on an album with fresh mixes that should be ready by the spring/summer. I still like that sound and will probably go back to it one day. The rough mixes sound great everywhere I've tested them. Real punchy and clean. This newer stuff is "fatter" sounding I guess. The drums are tuned differently, I'm using a different snare, and a different overhead setup. More real amps. More double-tracking. More everything.

I loved it. The guitars sound awesome to me, thick and compressed and still chewy. The vocal harmonies are great too...I can hear why several people have said they might like the vocals a touch louder, but it didn't bother me enough to worry about it. It's a great song too, without taking itself too seriously. Really good stuff!

Best Regards,

Dave
