Reading the thread about what this forum is all about is what made me do this. I'm posting, for the first time, a song with myself "singing" on it. Nobody has ever heard me sing before. Because I really can't sing. I posted an instrumental version of this tune a while ago. The mix is in progress. I always wanted to have at least one song of mine with my own voice on it. Here it is. It needs work for sure. I don't have much experience recording or mixing vocals. I can't get the EQ or the levels right at all. I'm counting on your ears to help me at least make this listenable. Don't hold back, I can take the bashing.

mbuster,
Cool tune. Sorry can't help you on the mix, I'm too new. But your voice sound's pretty good to me. It's original. Overall pretty good song.
The only thing I would change and this just my preference, is that the drum's seemed lil busy to me during the intro section.
Like I said before, cool tune.............Joe :D

Damn man...I gotta get to bed. I'll try to give this a listen tomorrow after work. Here's a bump for now! Looking forward to hearing it. And relax. It's music.

Thanks for listening Joe. The last version of this song I posted had a different intro, but nobody liked that one either. I bumped the bass up on this mix, too, as per suggestion, but I think I went a little too far. Throwing vocals in really makes mixing a whole different animal. It's hard to keep from cranking up the guitars (I'm a guitar player). Anyway, looking forward to some more mix help.

Holy Mother Of God!!!

You mother FUCKER!!! Okay, I'm on headphones, but this sounds fucking fantastic...once I got past the :45 minute intro...

Fear not, dude...you're better than me, and I see now that you realize that, lol.

@3:30 the vocal got really hot...last line before the lead.

Nice lead, too...jackass...lmao. WHY AM I "HELPING" you?

Seriously, nice work. I love this. You suck balls.

I always forget about this, but this deserves stars.

Chris, I think you are being nice because you "know" me. If you had any idea how much tweaking, cutting, pasting, pulling ,stretching, autotuning, deleting ,automating ,and fidgeting I've subjected this mess to just to get it to this point you really would be laughing your ass off. But thanks for the support. I'm still working on our tune. My connection dropped when I was downloading the last two of your tracks, and it takes me so damn long I haven't gotten them yet. I WILL THOUGH. I definitely want to finish that song and let these guys hear chrisharris on a rock song.

And I hardly think stars are in order. geez......

All right buster, when you've auditioned about 2000 tunes on this BBS, you can tell me I'm wrong about the stars.

Until then, shut up and take it like the primadona you are, lol.

BTW - After hearing this, I'm in no hurry for you to post the other tune...unless you can sprinkle some of your "magic" on that vocal of mine, lol.

Nice.
It seems like the drums lose impact in the loud vocal parts.
I can't believe I'm saying this but the vox seem too loud with all the b-ups and stuff. I would like to hear a more music-oriented mix. Or it might be appropriate to fade the lead vocal during the vox-heavy parts.

Since Chris seems to be high or something I'll try to help you out here.

Nice tune!

Actually you sing pretty damn good dude....
And the song kicks ass....

Very tasty guitar work...

I like the vocal harmonies, but they are a bit overpowering...

Did I mention I liked the guitars?...:)

Good job man....

;)

Gave it a quick listen on cans before work here. Sounds very good. Your voice sits nicely with your guitars. Got that "alterna" low growl to them. To be honest, and it could be because it's so early (6 am), but the song kinda drags a little. Seems like it could use a double time boost in there somewhere to spice it up. I'll try and give mix critiques when I hear it on monitors.

Nice job though. You should be doing your own vocals.

Everything I have to say has been said, but here goes anyway.

Vocals sound great. No reason for you not to sing on your songs. But they might be a little loud, especially the harmonies. I'd be fooling around with eq in those to make sure they don't cover stuff up, but I couldn't tell you what frequecies w/o actually trying it.

Drums sounded a little buried. I didn't really think so until late in the song. But then second listen they seemed low throughout.

Could use more bass.

Guitars sound awesome! I still say the begining has a recent Jeff Beck feel - not suggesting "stolen", just big beefy tone that's coming not just from the amp but from the fingers.

Bad news first:

I think the drums are too "polite" for this tune, especially the cymbals. The panning is a bit wide on that crash way over to the left, and the whole kit sounds a bit thin & dry.

Now for the good news:

Everything else sounds good to me. It's nice to hear heavy guitars that actually have some midrange left in 'em.:D

Thanks everybody for the feedback. I don't have time to respond individually, but I appreciate everyone's input. On the way to work this morning I listened and I can hear what every one of you is talking about. I've got my work cut out for me for sure! Hopefully I'll get some time to do a remix tonight taking into account all these suggestions. Thanks again everybody. I was nervous as hell about posting this song.

It's good! I liked it a lot. Certainly nothing to be remotely ashamed about!

I would like a stonger, louder, maybe even wetter snare (when all the singing and guitars kick in) Some of that could probably be improved with EQ, but that snare should really drive.

I also would like some more dynamic changes as the song goes on. Maybe shorten the intro and bring back some of the intro elements in later on to create some changes. Just thoughts.

Really great job and your voice sounded really good with the music.

Hey Im` really proud to hear you sing man. You do well. I`m chicken :).
I like the arrangement of the tune and the layout of the mix. I`d like to hear it spread out a little more across the field. The drums could use some more ass on the kick and snare. The bass aint too loud either. :)

Hey Man,
...Great stuff man!!!! Nice Staind feel to this. I love the mix on the instruments in this.....GREAT! The big lush BG vocs also..... man.... beautiful. The only nit i have is the pitchiness in the verse vocs. I like the vocal style and its tone though.... ...very nice!!!

GREAT MIX!!!!!!

lmao - I just noticed "Guernica's" custom avatar language says "crack ho,"....heheheee.

Hey man, just wanted to let you know that I gave this a couple of spins on the monitors, and the lead git tone sounds even better to me.

The vocals seem a bit hot when the mix is really cranked...where the backups meet the lead...but more than anything, they might benefit from a scoop of the mids...I usually don't even try to recommend EQ stuff, but whatever mic your using seems to have PLENTY of it, so it might not hurt to soften that vocal up a little without losing too much of its lush goodness, lol.

In fact, maybe I'm just hearing a lot of mids in the whole mix?? "Mackie Mid Cut" time?

Still a totally kick ass song; I just figured a couple of problems would crop up when I took the headphones off. I think it should be illegal for anybody to listen to one of my shitty recordings on air, lmao.

Hell of a job man! Your vocals are fine don't be like me and bash yourself. :D

I can hear that one on the radio! Keep up the good work.

You sound like Hetfield man! (meant as a compliment, they said it about SLuiCE but you really do!). Good start! Keep chargin'!

Can't help but wondering: do you talk like that also? In my ears, it sounds a tad 'forced'...

*gently bows head to receive massive beating* :)

Mix sounds good, but I agree with M. Brane about the thin cymbal sound. The vocals in the choruses seem a bit loud.

Love the guitarwork!
