A customer brought me a tape that he had recorded in the early '80's on a Teac 3340 that he wanted converted to digital. The problem is that I don't own a 1/4" 4 track machine. I do, however, own a Teac 3300SX, 1/4 track stereo machine. I ran the customer's tape using what I had on hand, recording two tracks in my Reaper system. I then flipped the tape and recoded the other two tracks backwards into Reaper. After they were recorded I grabbed the two backwards tracks and had Reaper flip them, creating 4 tracks going in the same direction. I was then able to line up the four tracks and do an "acceptable" mix of the material the customer hadn't heard since the early '80's. I wish I could find some of my old 1/4" 4 track master concert tapes from the '70's now.
